5.0 out of 5 stars This album makes me wanna......
Almost every endearing word under the sun has been used to describe this album "0" including 'Spectacular', 'Sublime', 'Mesmerizing', 'Magical', 'Wow' and the list goes on....

However, if this album has done anything at all , it would be to add the final nail in the coffin and confirm my decision I had been trying to make for a very long time. And that is...

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Was expecting better but was rather disappointed. In comparison with the music to Ka, I personally thought that 'O' was rather dreary and unlikely to lift the spirits. Shame really. Great show not matched by the music.

And that is whether to go to Vegas to see the live show. After a listen to this cd, the choice was easy because this album makes be wanna drop everything, pack my bags and run away with the magic that is Cirque Du Soleil.

This album is the pinnacle of perfection thanks to the great ingenuity of composer Benoit Jutras. There is a common theme and consistency that flows through this album from start to finish. You can almost visualize the picture the music is trying to paint and there is a great sense of emotion that eminates from the sentiment created by both the muscicians and singers. There is a consistant theme and style of music that the composers are obviously trying to follow and this is what makes it such a great album. Benoit Jutras does not ever lose track or drift too far away from the fundamental sound he is trying to create for the show and together with the way he ties the beginning to the ending to complete this masterpiece is just magnificent.

The highlights include tracks 1, 4, 5, and 6 which are uplifting tracks that give you a sense of joy and emancipation. The errie and lamenting 'Nostalgie' is just brilliant as are the more upbeat tracks like 'Tzelma', 'Mer noire' and 'Simcha' which just makes you wanna get up and dance. Toumany Kouyate's vocals are nothing short of amazing especially in 'Africa'.

In all, a remarkable and stunning effort from Benoit Jutras and his creative team. "0" is simply magnificent and has to take top honours for the best Cirque cd to date.

And in case you were wondering why I only rated this album 5 stars, it's only because I couldn't fit in a million.

5.0 out of 5 stars If I could it 100 stars, I would, October 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: O (Audio CD)
I own 8 CDS soundtracks, and as much as I love them all, O takes the cake. I could seriously listen to this CD everyday (and often I do) and never grow tired of it. It is simply marvelous. In a sense, it was the best rock album AND the most creative classical album of the year. It starts by grabbing your soul in the first 2 minutes of the soundtrack-it then takes you on a voyage and then returns you somewhat full-circle and yet transformed. It is ethnic without being irritating to people who prefer more comfortable tones. You will danse and drum your hands to the third track, and you will be absorbed into Desert (track 11). After hearing the soundtrack, you will be obsessed with seeing the show. While Quidam is my favorite live show, O is the music I cant get out of my head. BUY IT!

This CD is incredible! It is relaxing, and invigorating at the same time. Every time I listen to this, I get a chill, and it brings back the wonderful memories of seeing "O" in Las Vegas. By far, the most incredible show of it's time. It is a "must see", and worth EVERY PENNY!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Admittedly biased, April 19, 2006
By
This review is from: O (Audio CD)
I am, I admit, utterly biased. I worked for the show several years ago, my husband is one of the musicians (when you hear the sax on this CD, that's him) and I have a deep and abiding love and respect for the show, the music and above and beyond all else, the artists who make the experience of show and music what it is: Magical.
One of the suggestions I would make for any Cirque show is don't expect to understand it, just enjoy the energy swirling around - enjoy the music (and don't expect to understand the language, real language is rarely used - call it langue du Cirque - language of the Cirque - if you will - please also understand that most CD's only have a certain amount of time/space available - everything just couldn't fit - you can imagine I'm sure how difficult it was to choose the music to put on - but knowing the work of Benoit Jutras and the caliber of the musicians on the show then and now, these are some of the most professional, beautiful people - I'm not speaking of physical beauty, I'm speaking of artistic beauty - there is soul in this music, there is a sense of what the show is when you listen. Above all, there is everything from longing to celebration in this music. Cirque du Soleil is about losing yourself in a world of magic and artistry - why overanalyze it? Just enjoy the magic, enjoy the ride, enjoy the Cirque...

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Soundtrack to a Sublime show., September 5, 2004

If you have not seen a cirque du soleil show, treat yourself to one. The ticket price may be unreasonable, but when you see the production and feats of dexterity, strength and skill you'll understand where your money is going. The soundtrack to the show "O" (phonetic for "eau" or water, which is the main theme for this performance) is a diligent sampling of the music you will hear at Bellagio in Las Vegas. I warn the buyers of this CD that the show runs approximately 90 minutes, and the CD is only 60 or so. Therefore if you were expecting extended mixes to match your "O" experience 100%, you will be disappointed. The overall music selection is okay as a stand alone. I'd use it for background music while doing something else. If you've seen the show, this will definetely spark some vivid memories. My personal favorite is about 5 minutes into the 5th track, Remous. (the barge sketch)

4.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring, Beautiful, Touching, June 29, 2001

Walking around The Strip, first thing you notice is the huge post about "O", Cirque du Soleil's show at The Bellagio. I tried to get tickets to that show, but couldn't. Half a year later, during my next visit to Vegas, I came prepared with front row tickets. The show is unbelievable. I think the New York times described it as "Beyond Words". So is the music. It is great to lie down, and listen to the enchanting music that takes you back to certain scenes from the show. I strongly recommend this CD to people who like eclectic music, a little of everything all mixed together in a wonderful jubilee.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hearing Is Seeing, September 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: O (Audio CD)
In July, I had the opportunity to actually experience Cirque du Soleil "O" at the Bellagio. The show and the music were absolutely fabulous ... unlike anything I had seen or heard before. It was well worth the $100+ price of the ticket. I purchased the CD one month later. Upon closing my eyes and listening to the music, it was if I was back at the Bellagio reliving the "O" experience all over again. The music is soothing, haunting, calming, exciting. You will NOT be disappointed if you add this CD to your collection. And if you're ever in Las Vegas, you must see "O" in full production in spite of the pricey ticket.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful piece of work by Cirque.....again!, January 8, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: O (Audio CD)
What takes a Cirque show to another level is the meshing of amazing music into nearly every act. The music brings back the feeling of that night. If you saw the show, and loved it as I did, then the CD is a must have. I would recommend it even for people who have not seen the marvelous show known as "O". This very well be my second favorite Cirque soundtrack, behind Alegria(and Francesca Gagnon) of course;-)

After I saw the show at the Bellagio and left without this CD, I regretted it very much. These songs bring back the feeling of that magical night. The haunting and lamenting voice in Nostalgie brings back the show as if I were there again. Other favorites are Jeux d'Eau, Mer Noire, Tzelma......and of course "O".

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, even for someone who has not seen the show, June 3, 1999

On a recent trip to Las Vegas, I fell in love with Cirque du Soleil, but was not able to see a show. But even though, this CD has some of the most relaxing music you could ever hope for...even if you've never seen <<O>>...or any Cirque show, for that matter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Cirque Score To Date, October 27, 2003

I received this CD as a gift from a friend and I was thrilled with the CD from begining to end. I can say that I know none of the actual lyrics and find it challenging to determine the languages used in the songs, but it does not matter in the least. The harmonies are astounding and each successive song evokes more emtion than the last. I have used it as study music, as housecleaning background music, and as a way to relax while taking a bath. I don't think there is any way a Cirque fan of any degree would not enjoy this album
