Brings back memories,
By
This review is from: Cirque du Soleil: "O" (Audio CD)
Each time I listen to 'O' it brings back a wonderful sense of nostalgia. When the gorgeous, sorrowful longing of "Jeux D'Eau" starts playing I get tingles all over my body, just as I did when I first saw the show at the Bellagio in Las Vegas and the red velvet curtains dropped to reveal the most mesmerizing show I have ever seen on stage - or, in this case, in water.
The story itself is complex yet breathtaking (you can interpret its meaning whichever way you'd like), and the wide range of emotions the music emits only further enhances the sweeping away part. The melodies are mournful, jubilant, and, as ever, magical... In short, these beautiful compositions will make you FEEL. So buy this soundtrack, and go see the show if you haven't already!

'Tis my favorite!,

This review is from: Cirque du Soleil: "O" (Audio CD)
Funny thing is, I haven't even seen the show for "O," but I have had this album for 5 years now and it has quickly grown to become among my favorite albums of all time. This is probably my favorite cirque du soleil album. While it is versatile in different styles with a clash influence of popular and classical music, such sweet harmonious sounds and a tasteful blend of timbres create a colorful soundtrack to what I could picture to be an incredible show. If they will ever do the show "O" again I'm gonna see it. "Africa" and "Remous" are especially good, as they show much contrast in dynamics, texture, style, and timbre, as well as interpolating background effects to create a vision that one is in Africa during the night. "Gamelan," "Ephra," and "desert" are very well written songs, as well as the title track itself. If you love their music, this is definitely the cream of the crop.

Admittedly biased,
By
This review is from: Cirque du Soleil: "O" (Audio CD)
I admit it...I am horribly biased. I worked for Cirque du Soleil "O" for the first oh, almost 3 years of it's running and married the sax player you'll hear on this CD. That said, I've heard this music over and over for the past ten years. It is still nowhere near old to me. It still stirs my blood and I find that I can conjure up visions in my mind's eye of just exactly what exactly should be happening in the show with each song and it makes me smile each time. This music, so beautifully written by Benoit Jutras, was played to perfection on the CD and if you do make it to the show, you'll be equally blown away by just how great it is in person. From start to finish what you get on this is "O" to go. So take it with you - see what you can conjure up with it. Will it be a scene from "O" or will it be something of your own imaginings? Listen and see! It's rare that music is written for something so specific yet has such wonderfully open possibilities!

As inspiring and beautiful as the show!,

This review is from: Cirque du Soleil: "O" (Audio CD)
I've been a big Cirque du Soleil fan for many years. Even since I saw my first show, Quidam, in the late 90s I've been addicted. I collect the DVDs and CDs, and always check out the latest touring show when it comes to town. I even had the opportunity to see Cirque du Soleil's "O" at The Bellagio in Las Vegas, and I've been in love with the soundtrack ever since.
The "O" soundtrack by Benoit Jutras, who also composed music for Cirque du Soleil's Quidam and La Nouba, captures the beauty, inspiration and purity of the show itself. Each song is perfectly woven with sounds of clarity and the feeling of the water, the element in which "O" is based around. Ranging from simple piano ballads, elegant strings, soaring operatic vocals and playful bouts of chaos to unique tribal sounds and the feel of fire and arid deserts. Particular favorites on the CD include "Jeaux d'eau" ("Water Games") and "O." Both songs are heavy on piano and remind me of water in every form -the ocean, waterfalls, flowing rivers -just the tranquil wonder of water. I've always felt a special connect to "Jeaux d'eau," in part because I'm a big fan of stringed instruments, which infuses piano with the clean simplicity of cello. Apart from these two songs, "O" also offers some unexpected, upbeat numbers such as the accordion-heavy "Terre Aride" ("Arid Earth") and vocal-laden "Mer Noire" ("Black Ocean"). The beautiful, opera-inspired female vocal work manages to transcend the traditional opera sound into something some unique and simply out-of-this-world. The tribal-inspired male vocal work adds an unexpected dimension to the overall sound and sets it apart of the rest of Cirque's music. "O" is by far one of my favorite Cirque soundtracks and is connected to my favorite Cirque show out there. It's an astonishing, beautiful piece of music that captures the essence of the show's water theme perfectly.

Needs Updating,
By
This review is from: Cirque du Soleil: "O" (Audio CD)
I loved the music of the Las Vegas show and purchased the CD. I was disappointed however as the CD is from 1998 and needs updating. The current cast in Las Vegas showcases at least two lady's who in my opinion have tremendous voices and much better than those on the CD. I would like to see them make a recording of the current show and update the CD. Also the male vocal in the current show is better. The selection Mer Noire in the show is much longer than the 5 minutes and change as is on the current CD and is much more enjoyable.

One of the best Cirque du Soleil Soundtracks,
By Carsten Cumbrowski "Carsten aka Roy/SAC & Cir... (Fresno, CA USA) - See all my reviews

The music to the great hit show "O" by Cirque du Soleil is IMO also one of the best OST of all Cirque shows overall, maybe only topped by the soundtrack for the CDS show "Varekai", although the soundtrack for "Mystere" and "KÀ" are not very much "behind" either. :)
The music is for the most part electronic (synthesizers) and makes extensive use of soprano singing by an experienced female singer. It's great music to relax to and if you also like music by artists like Enya, Jean Michel Jarre or Vangelis, you will almost certainly like this one too.

A Beautiful Show,

This review is from: Cirque du Soleil: "O" (Audio CD)
One of the best shows of Cirque du Soleil to this day! I got to see this during my two night stay in Las Vegas Nevada. I stayed at the Bellagio and *gasp* the show plays there! It was expensive and we sat up in the balcony, but the way they set up the seats around the stage made it worth it to sit there. The stage is cirular and the floor goes out to reveal a 14 foot deep pool where actors perform above, in, or around the pool. There seats go up and then there is the first balcony and the third. To the sides are more seats where dad and I sat. Well worth it where we sat because even there we got a great view.
The CD has some of the msot beautiful music from the show on it. It is well worh it to get the CD because of the beauty of the msuic. I actually bought the CD pre seeing the show at the store there in the Bellagio and the music just floored me. I knew from the CD I would love the show. The music is well done and orchestrated and you can picture the scene in your head. If you love singing and lovely chorus music you'll love these type of CDs. If you are a love of Cirque du Soleil or just the "O" show GET THIS CD!

I bought this disc specifically for a track I heard when I saw the show, but it's not there. I was extremely disappointed. All the other tracks are good but not as reminiscent for me.

This is a great soundtrack about the music of Cirque du Soleil's show "O".
If you have not seen the show, the music won't make much sense, but if you did see it in Vegas, as soon as you hear it you'll remember what a wonderfull show it was. I listen to it on saturday and sunday afternoon to help me relax.

One of my favorite Cirque CD's!,
By
This review is from: Cirque du Soleil: "O" (Audio CD)
What takes a Cirque show to another level is the meshing of amazing music into nearly every act. The music brings back the feeling of that night. If you saw the show, and loved it as I did, then the CD is a must have. I would recommend it even for people who have not seen the marvelous show known as "O". This very well be my second favorite Cirque soundtrack, behind Alegria(and Francesca Gagnon) of course;-)
After I saw the show at the Bellagio and left without this CD, I regretted it very much. Music is integral to any Cirque du Soleil show, but this one even moreso than most. These songs bring back the feeling of that magical night. The haunting and lamenting voice in Nostalgie brings back the show as if I were there again. Other favorites are Jeux d'Eau, Mer Noire, Tzelma......and of course "O". A must own for any lover of Cirque du Soleil! |
