I own the "Varekai" DVD and love everything about it...especially the music. This is NOT the same music that is on the DVD. Some tracks are similar, but not even the performers are the same. To get the true soundtrack to the DVD, you have to order it directly from Cirque. I like this CD, but it is not what I thought I was ordering.

Not as advertised,

This is music, vocals from the show. It is the people who sing it during the show, it is NOT, however, all the music you'll see while watching the show. If what you're looking for is a simple soundtrack of the identical music you heard during the show THIS IS NOT IT.
The vocals are pretty and I'd even say that this may be worth getting if you love the show. But know what you're getting.

Quite awesome,

The music included on this CD, while not all of which is from the actual show, is very chilling, haunting, and just evokes something inside of you.
If you're looking for the music straight from the show, this isn't what you want. But, if you want something along the lines of what the music in the show had, you might be interested in this. Overall, this is a great CD, even though it is quite different from what the show offers.

An inspirational CD not to be passed up,
This review is from: Cirque du Soleil: Varekai (Audio CD)
I'm a huge fan of Cirque Du Soleil and Varekai. I went to the show on Jan. 27th, 2005, traveling over 600 mi. just to see it, and I plan on traveling even farther in 2006 to see Varekai's last stop in the US. That's how good this show is. And one of the best parts of Varekai is the music. It's grouped into the category of New Age, but I don't think any Cirque soundtrack can be grouped into any one category. Cirque really is a category of it's own, music AND show. I bought the special edition of the soundtrack at the show (this CD with and extra CD and DVD included) and, just judging on this CD, I thought it was amazing. It's not the same music as in the show, but without judging it by that, alone it's amazingly beautiful, unique, and inspiring music.
My personal favorites are Vocea, Lubia Dobarstan, El Pendulo, and Kero Hireyo. I listen to it every day, and every time I'm taken back to those breathtaking memories at the Grand Chapiteau. I'm going to try out for Cirque as a singer sometime in the future and this soundtrack and show are my inspiration. I urge you get this if you've seen and enjoy Varekai, or just like Cirque in general. You won't be disappointed. :)

No, this is not the music from the live show, Varekai, but much of it is used somewhere throughout the show, perhaps in a slight variation or in different lengths. Regardless of whether or not it is the soundtrack to the show, it's still beautiful. If the people who claim to "love" the show actually knew anything about Cirque du Soleil Musique in general they would know that most of the show music they sell on CD is not an actual soundtrack. I know at least that the Quidam, Varekai, La Nouba, Alegria, and Dralion CDs are this way. But check the boutique at www.cirquedusoleil.com, because they have released new editions of some that contain bonus live tracks recorded directly from the shows. They also have a Mystere: LIVE CD that is the music from a live production of Mystere. For those of you that say that the singers on stage in Varekai and the singers on the CD are the same? I hate to inform you that had you watched the reality show Cirque du Soleil: Fire Within, you would also know that this is not true. Leading up to Varekai's opening night they had a male singer from somewhere in eastern Europe and they let him go relatively soon before the show debuted and replaced him with another. And if you knew anything about showbusiness in general you would know that even if the original on-stage male singer for Varekai had been the same as the singer on the CD, he's probably been replaced by now, as Varkai's been touring for a few years.

This is NOT the music from the show!!!,

This is an absolutely ridiculous concept album posing as the soundtrack to a wonderful Cirque show. This album takes the passion and joy of the show and turns it into a solemn art-house experiment that would be at home at some coffee shop with a depressed loner reciting poetry on open mike night.
I'm serious... there's a wonderfully elegaic violin (or maybe a viola, I can't remember) solo that opens the show that is beautiful and full of passion, and here it's transformed into the sound of rain and some guy saying "falling" a lot. And there's another sequence that turns the Cirque stage into a vibrant abstraction of undersea creatures, with equally vibrant music to match the visuals, but I'd be hard pressed to find the track that is supposed to represent that act on this cd. Violaine Corradi is obviously capable of some inhumanly beautiful music, but this cd was handed over to someone named Nitin Sawhney, who wrote the most pretentious liner notes I've ever read, and I suspect the failure of this album falls in this person's lap. I do NOT recommend this album...

Varekai CD,
This review is from: Cirque du Soleil: Varekai (Audio CD)
Varekai is a Touring Show of Cirque du Soleil. It is a great show and the music hits your soul deeply. The lead female singer, Zara Tellander, hits great notes that reach out and go deeply into your soul. Cirque du Soleil always find singers who have great voices. Most songs are in an imaginary language. Trying to interpret one is difficult. Just let yourself go as you listen to it and let the music take your soul for a ride.

This CD is amazing.
Some people are angry that it doesn't have all of the tracks from the show, but none of the Cirque Du Soleil CDs do! This album was a departure from Cirque tradition, though, because it was the first CD to be released under the CIRQUE MUSIQUE label...they tried more the idea of the show, instead of the show itself. The CD and the show are two different entities, but they are both ones that I love very much!

Dreamlike,
This review is from: Cirque du Soleil: Varekai (Audio CD)
This is not the music from the show, I barely recognize it, but the narration in English and other languages, and the sombre mood, lift this to one of the best CdS CDs of all time. Very sublime and dreamlike, if - like many of these - a little derivative. :)

I absolutely love this CD. It is very unique and makes me happy. My only qualm is that some of the songs are too alike, but otherwise I really recomend it.
