The book is great it has five very detailed lab exams. Just what a candidate needs to practice for the two day hands on lab. I have taken the exam twice, so I can tell you the authors were right on with the title of the first chapter "As close as you can get".

This book is great for anyone studying for the hands on lab. The 5 practices tests are very detailed. This is my second attempt at the lab, so I can tell you the scenarios in the book are very close. I only wish I had this the first time.

I just received this book and I am amazed at the detail and realism of these labs. This book along with the authors first book, the CCIE Lab Study Guide, pack a powerful 1-2 punch. This book contains 5 very accurate and detailed CCIE lab tests. The questions and labs are designed to be as close as possible to the actual labs. GOOD WORK !!!!

Yes, this book address the 2-day lab. But, I bought any way, figuring any lab work was beneficial. WRONG! I am half way through this book and I am finding it riddled with typos, mistakes, and poor editting. The labs are rather basic, if you can make it through the errors. Perhaps the authors should read Doyle's TCP/IP for a refresher on redistributing classful and classless routing protocols! I am forcing my way through, only because I hate to waste the money! DO NOT BUY!!!

The book contains 5 very detailed pratice exams covering all of the routing protocols as well new addtions to the test like VOIP, ATM LANE and IPSEC. Some typos but overall a great book.

I passed the Lab and I strongly strongly recommend this book. It gives you a very adequate coverage of topics on the real lab and, by the way, you don't have to much choices. As far as I know this is the only available book with realistic Lab scenarious on the market. ccbootcamp is another good source, but it's much more expensive and it provides you just scenarious without almost any comments.

I agree that this book has some obsolete stuff as DECnet. Just ignore it. As of today it includes also even the most recent technologies as Voice-over-IP and VPNs, which is much more important.

I also found a few minor mistakes in commands, but when I checked full config listings in the end of chapter they were fixed there. Looks like this full configs were copied from real routers and they are correct.

Yes, this book can't replace all this tons of books you have to read. It can't give you a deep knowledge of internetworking, but it can very significantly improve your chances to pass. You'll know what kind of tasks and equipment to expect and in a very stressfull environment it's a huge plus.

I found this book to be a good reference for the basics of the CCIE Lab. It provided a good foundation, however, it fell short of being a good preparation tool for the actual Lab. The book does not address the new 1-day format of the Lab Exam very well, and I felt that the book did not cover the internetworking technologies to the difficulty levels of the actual Lab exam.

I would recommend this book as a beginning to serious Lab Exam preparation, but you will soon find that you need to progress beyond the scope of this book.

If your looking for some practice scenarios this is the book for you. The book contains 6 practice exams, covering BGP through MPLS and IPsec. I found the labs to be challenging and the material to be well presented and accurate. Great book...

For those who found the authors' first book (CCIE Lab Study Guide) to be lacking, this book is a must. Rather than labs oriented to a single protocol, this book offers six scenarios that more closely approximate the two-day lab. Great book, well worth the money.

I passed the lab in March of 2003. I could only suggest the book to those just starting their studies. For those just about ready to go to the lab, let's say with 3 months to go before lab date, this won't be of much help. Practice labs need to be HARDER than the CCIE Lab.
If you are going to spend your time going for the CCIE, you MAY (I repeat MAY) want to start with this one, but review it to make sure they have changed the technologies! As of the last writing which I own, it's outdated.
Out of all of the time I spent on the CCIE preperation, I used this about 1% of my total study time. I guess that sums it up.
