My issues with this router stem not so much from the quality of the router itself (it's actually very good when it's working properly), but rather with how little effort Cisco/Linksys put into "refurbishing" their products. From my experience, Cisco's/Linksys' quality assurance standards are so astoundingly low that they have no qualms about sending you a bricked router as was what happened in my case (more on this after my review).

For the time being, I will disregard my gripes with the company and focus solely on the router. Once the E3000 is actually set up, it is a very nice, very easy to use device as anyone who has bought one of Linksys/Cisco's other routers can confirm. For the week or so that I have owned this router (after getting it to work), I've not encountered any issues with connecting wireless devices to it nor have I had any connectivity issues (dropped/slow/weak connections).

Now onto my issues with Cisco/Linksys and why you should be careful buying a refurbished router from them:
As you may have inferred from my (unsubtle) hints above, setting up the router can either be incredibly easy or a complete nightmare. For me, my experience falls under the latter as I was sent a bricked router. After having set up my router, I turned it on for the first time and found that not only was I not connected to the internet, the router was unresponsive except the power LED was blinking. After a google search, I found that this was due to a corrupted firmware (bricked router) and I ended up having to manually restore the router's firmware. For those considering to buy this router refurbished, please be aware that Cisco/Linksys evidently do not check that their refurbished routers actually work before sending them out the door.

Just bought a refurbished E3000 wireless router. It was pretty impressive - easy to use, easy to configure, and seemed to have great range. Ten minutes later, however, it was giving me the blinking power LED - meaning it was having a major problem.

I spent the next two hours with Cisco Support in India trying to convince them that it didn't matter if I was using AT&T or Verizon for my ISP - their own web site indicated a flashing power LED meant a defective router. They eventually agreed to replace it - a process that will take a couple of weeks.

Usually, when a company has a large enough inventory of refurbished devices to sell them retail, there's a fundamental problem with the hardware. I suggest staying away from the refurbished version - and perhaps even the new product.

This router does not allow "Channel Bonding" at 2.4GHz only at 5GHz. Therefore, 300Mbps speed CAN NOT be achieved at 2.4GHz. "Customer Support" rerouts you to a "pay for answer site"; answer from here is worthless as well.

    Received dead-in-the-box.
    Would not power on.
I've got a feeling that this vendor is questionable.
Other buyers' have had same problem.

As the other reviewers mention the quality of these refurbished units is inconsistent. If you get lucky, great, but you are taking a gamble. The devices have a habit of showing up DOA, working inconsistently, or failing after a few weeks.

In my case Cisco is refusing to honor the 90 day warranty, indicating the warranty expired before I bought the device from Electronista.
    Issues I experienced:

    - Overheats in the best / coolest conditions.
    - Connections drop regularly requiring the unit to be rebooted
    - After 50-60 days the device appears to have bricked itself.
    - Cisco refused to honor warranty 60 into 90 days.

In general the specs on this device are great, and I'm sure if you buy it new direct from Cisco you'll have a great experience. You should however avoid these refurbished units as there is no guarantee you wont end up with a brick you have no use for.

I've been a strong proponent of Linksys for reliability to my friends and family, and I've owned the original WRT54, and moved up to the WRT160NL, which was a real workhorse, and after reading the reviews on it, I decided to replace the WRT160NL with this E3000.

I had high expectations for it, as people have said it's a great router, with dual bands in 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz, but my experiences have been terrible.

I set the router up where I had the WRT160NL and setup was painless. But then I started to lose my wireless connection from time to time. In fact, in my bedroom, which is about 20 feet away, in my wood framed apartment on the second floor of a building... I get 1 bar and sometimes 0 bars and can't connect. The old linksys had absolutely no issues with my apartment, heck I could get a signal outside.

I've tried to love this router, I upgraded the firmware, which didn't help, I've tried changing the channels to minimize interference, I've then loaded custom firmwares DD-WRT and Tomato, which have not helped, and I still have shoddy reception. This router performs probably worse than the e1000s I have downstairs.

On top of which I have to reboot this router from time to time, as it seems to slow down, not to mention I have to elevate the router as it seems to get really warm.

Maybe I got a dud, but I am very disappointed with the performace. What's keeping me from giving this 1 star is that it still works, as long as I have line of sight to it, or am directly connected to it via a network cable. All the stuff about it being a high power router with more range, has proven to be false and I will probably go back to the old linksys.

On the plus side, it is a very nice shade of blue.
