4.0 out of 5 stars Compact little hub ...
It's now more 18 months since this device was acquired and it has been there silently performing its job. 3.0 out of 5 stars Is this USB1.1 Hub?
The title and features say USB2.0 HUB, but the data and manual are obviously for USB1.1 as Max speed is 12M. Iwas looking for USB2.0 Hub.....

It's now more 18 months since this device was acquired and it has been there silently performing its job. Almost always all the bays have been occupied, infact I have to release devices in order to let more in. No complaints on performance or manufacturing. My only gripe (the reason for 4-stars) is that linksys should've provided more separation between the ports even though most USB connectors are a standard size. Try removing the connector from the center port when all ports are occupied and you'll know what I mean. It is funny that the ports are on the backside with the device facing you. The length of the cord provided with the device could've been longer. Last word, good solid buy.

So you have to plug it into the wall. So what? If you need more USB ports on your home machine, get this hub. It's slightly larger than a deck of playing cards. All you do is plug it in. Everything you need is in the box. No additional cords, software or drivers required. Perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Linksys USB 2.0 4-port powered hub works well, February 6, 2005

I received the device and had it up and running on an XP system in 15 minutes which was mostly spent connecting the cables. The driver software loaded before I even got logged on.

This is a powered USB hub. When researching it was mentioned the power helps if you have a device your connecting that needs power. After installing I went into Device Manager and looked at the Power tab on this device and saw that out of three devices I connected two of them needed power from the hub. Definitely glad I got the powered version.

I connected the USB Mouse to it as a test. It needed power from the Hub and I found you have to be patient to use the mouse until your Operating System is up enough to allow the hub to talk with it. It did work but I connected the mouse back into one of the USB ports on the PC so I don't have to wait.

Great device and it's smaller than I thought it would be, which I like. The one review that mentioned the link to the User Guide is wrong is correct, the User Guide that comes with it is correct. Yes it is a USB type 2.0, not a 1.1, though you can connect 1.1 type USB devices to it.

This product does what it promises to do. The USB hub requires an external power supply (only downside) & easily connected several divices to my USB port on my laptop.

Indicator lights tell you which port is active.

4.0 out of 5 stars Super easy install, works wonderfully for USB 1 and 2, May 25, 2007

I bought this for my iMac, but have comments PC users may appreciate. Now, in addition to my keyboard and Sony Memory Stick mouse our:
-iPod
-Palm Pilot
-HP printer, and
-4 GB Seagate thumb drive
now can be connected to our computer at one time without plugging and unplugging devices. (See our other reviews for details on items referenced above.)

Pro:
-Powers "USB 1" and "USB 2" type devices that require more power than "USB 1"
-Works right out of the box, "plug and play" as promised
-Small and lightweight
-LED lights tell you power and hub connections are working
-Light enough with enough flatness for me to add velcro to it and attach to the back of my computer to keep it up from cluttering my desk
-Most of the packaging is recyclable (paper based), very little waste
-Reasonable price... a great value

Con:
-Power cable is a little short (3 feet) but adequate
-Power cable also has a bulky transformer on the power plug end so it crowds out other power plugs when used in a power strip

Neutral:
-Requires power (cord included)
-Although USB connections are separated by a standard width, it's a little crowded back there... watch out for those devices that have a non-standard connector (although admittedly I can't think of any)

Tip:
-Consumes one USB connection on your computer so net USB connections added is 3, not 4
-XP/Win users: Every time you connect a "new device" to the hub you need to install drivers. If you move a device from one USB to another, that will be interpreted as a "new device." For ultimate flexibility, suggest setting up each device on each USB while you have the driver disc out or buy a Mac. I believe this is a function of the Win OS, not this device.

Bottom line: Highly recommended. Plug it in and forget it... wonderful!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Plug It In and Forget About It, January 24, 2006
This review is from: Cisco-Linksys USB2HUB4 USB 4-Port Hub (Personal Computers)
Yes, I installed it (easily) and then forgot I had it. Just purchased a second one for another PC. Really, even I couldn't screw this up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Plug, plug, play with ease, March 14, 2006
This review is from: Cisco-Linksys USB2HUB4 USB 4-Port Hub (Personal Computers)
Like the other reviews claim, this product is blazingly simple to get operating. It took me under 2 minutes to plug it into the wall, plug it into my laptop, turn on my laptop, plug all my other USBs in to and then become completely happy. I've accumulated far too many USB devices for my two ports on the back of my laptop and have been very frustrated that I often couldn't use my mouse because I had to swap it for my microphone and webcam, external harddrive or flash drive. Now, I'm content and quickly realizing I could have used even another four more ports...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for iMac owners, May 24, 2008

This review is from: Cisco-Linksys USB2HUB4 USB 4-Port Hub (Personal Computers)
I have an iMac (2.33 GHz, 24" Aluminum, Mac OS X Leopard) and a 160 GB iPod Classic. When the iPod is plugged into the Linksys hub, iTunes reports that the iPod is connected to a low-power, low-speed USB 1.1 hub. Very disappointing. This hub's going back to Amazon.

Slik modern design,small,3.5" x 2" hub. Clear "power on" light, no separate USB out indicator lights. Loses a "star" for no USB "out" light indicators.
