Essential for a Network,
This review is from: Cisco-Linksys WAP55AG Dual-Band Wireless A+G Access Point (Personal Computers)
The WAP55AG was so easy to setup. Compared to past Linksys access points, there was no need for software installation as XP can determine configuration automatically. My Dell laptop could instantaneously identify the proper frequency and establish a link. Recently, I bought a second unit for my office and my laptop automatically connects at home or at work without any hassle whatsoever.

Great Way to Add Wireless Support to an Existing Wired Network,
By
This review is from: Cisco-Linksys WAP55AG Dual-Band Wireless A+G Access Point (Personal Computers)
Pros: Provides 802.11a in addition to 802.11g/b, wireless standards can be separately enabled/disabled, good range, nice complement to an existing Linksys cable/dsl broadband router, 802.11a (and WPA security) works great with a MacBook Pro.
Cons: None I bought this access point to add wireless networking to my existing setup (I also own a Linksys 4-port broadband router). I also wanted 802.11a, since it is rarely used by consumers (so less chance of competition on the airwaves) and is not affected by microwave ovens and such. Well this access point works great with my MacBook Pro, utilizing 802.11a w/WPA security. Highly recommended!!! p.s. While I could have gotten a combined router/access point for a similar price, I did not want/need both. Plus, being a security-conscious guy, it is nice to be able to pull the plug on the access point without affecting the wired network. And finally, being separate, you can grab the access point and take it with you without unwiring the rest of your network.

Can't understand the problems others are having,

This is my second one of this model, I burned up the first myself when we moved and I accidentially plugged the wrong transformer into it (too much voltage = smoke). I found it easy to configure, set up WEP keys, MAC locked everything using the web-based interface. It worked great with our LinkSys Media extender - we watch recorded tv from our Media Center pc on our plasma screen tv three rooms away using this device. No problems whatsoever. Hasn't slowed down my internet connection either. I am buying another one today to serve the mobile computer lab at work.

The Linksys WAP55AG tri-mode access point is an excellent unit! Setup was a breeze! It was also very easy to configure all the security access settings. I found it to be pretty much plug-n-play. Configuration only took about 10 - 15 minutes. I have been using it with the Linksys WPC55AG notebook adapter and have had excellent connectivity. I dealt with the Linksys tech support when trying to configure multiple routers for a small business setup and they went above and beyond the call to solve my problem. I would recommend any products made by Linksys and their parent company Cisco.

Looks to be a lemon,

I purchased this unit along with 3 WMP55AG PCI cards to integrate into my current home network. Moderate web browsing with this unit appears to be okay, however once a heavy network load it placed on the WAP55AG it stalls, locks up, and requires a power cycle. I'm using heavy loosely here. Downloads from Windows Update over a 1.5Mbps cable modem have caused this behavior. Copying a file a local wired server to a wireless client causes this behavior all the time.I've been in contact with Linksys tech support for a few days now. So far none of their 'workarounds' have been successful. [...]

Should Depict 1 Star
Sadly, the more products I buy from post Cisco merged Linksys..the more money I lose. Made the mistake of buying this item for a customer whch has consistently started to lockup after the first month of purchase. No upgraded firmware...waste....purchase another product

Cut my Internet Speed to 30%,

This review is from: Cisco-Linksys WAP55AG Dual-Band Wireless A+G Access Point (Personal Computers)
I bought this to upgrade my wireless connection to my Xbox 360. The Wireless connectivity was passable (not great) but what ultimately made me return this was after multiple tests I determined that the router had cut my connection speed to a third of its original speed. I tried to trouble-shoot w/ Linksys Tech Support to no avail.

I have had the unfortunate experience of dealing with 3 of these at the office. Each one is plagued with the activity lights flashing constantly when there are no other wireless devices in range. (flashed to the latest firmware) I tried multiple locations, even going as far to bring one home and see what happened. I live the middle of no where, so I am sure there are not any wireless devices around. Also, the fact that neither 802.11a or 802.11g would keep a constant 54m connect. Sitting the laptop 1 foot from the router and the speed would fall back to lower connect speeds constantly. After trying multiple wireless lan cards, and multiple laptops, I can honestly say this AP is a piece of garbage and I would not recommend it at all.
