5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Router
I used to get my wireless signal through an airport card in a very old Mac I own. I connected the Mac to the cable router via Ethernet and then used the Internet sharing option in OSX to beam a wireless signal for all my devices. This was fine for me, but sadly my old Mac died last week. (*cries)

It's pretty hard to break an ethernet port but that's what I did on my laptop so I had to get a wireless router in a hurry. I thought this one was a good deal, I've had positive experiences with Linksys modems/routers in the past and I'm generally comfortable with refurbished items so I bought it. 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Router, July 1, 2010
This review is from: Cisco-Linksys WRT120N Wireless-N Home Router - IEEE 802.3u, 802.11g, 802.11b, Draft 802.11n, 3 Month Warranty, REFURBISHED (Electronics)

I bought this router to get my wireless network going again. I was attracted to the Valet router, of course, but I didn't think I really needed it (and currently it costs $89). Well, I bought the WRT120N as a cost effective alternative. It took me about 10 minutes at the most to set it up. You just put the disc in the drive and follow all of the directions. My Linux laptops detected and picked network up immediately. My daughter's Nintendo DSi was just as easy to connect. When I am on my desk top I can see exactly who is connected to my network at any time, and I can share the printer with all the computers, as well. The connection is great- I get a lot more speed on my wireless signal than I did using the old Mac method. This is the lower end of the Cisco wireless N router lineup, and it is fantastic, so I can only imagine how amazing the Valet would be.

I would recommend this for anyone who wants to set up a home network with a fairly simple setup, like laptops, game consoles, e-readers, etc. I cannot say how it would work with a complicated home entertainment setup. In fact, I don't think it is meant to handle more than basic home networks. Dont be put off by price or other reviewers who cant set up a network and blame the equipment. This is a great router, and if you can follow instructions you can get your network up and running in just a few minutes.

It's pretty hard to break an ethernet port but that's what I did on my laptop so I had to get a wireless router in a hurry. I thought this one was a good deal, I've had positive experiences with Linksys modems/routers in the past and I'm generally comfortable with refurbished items so I bought it. I've since found several more current routers in the same general price range; I'm not sure how I missed them before I bought this one.

In any event, it mostly works. It wouldn't install until I updated the firmware, after which the installation went smoothly. Under most circumstances I have no quarrel with the performance, but it acts up when I'm streaming Netflix content through the computer to the television, slowing down and sometimes dropping the connection altogether. I've had to power it down and back up on too many occasions.

For everything else, it's fine and quite fast. I expect I'll end up buying a new router in the not too distant future because the streaming video problem is just too annoying to put up with for long. If you don't mind spending a few dollars more--and it really is only a few--you're probably better off buying a more current piece of equipment. This one isn't a horrible buy, but it's outdated and used and you can get a new one for the same or a bit more money, so why wouldn't you?

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Setup, August 16, 2010

I have purchased and configured several routers for family and friends over the years. The Linksys WRT120N was as easy as most Linksys wireless routers are to set up. If you've never set one up, then these are about the easiest routers to install and configure. Plus: In my experience, Linksys makes a very reliable product. I've bought a few new units and several refurbished units and have never had a problem. Especially for the price I paid for this one, the WRT-120N is a great router.

Great router for the price! I was sceptical about buying a used product at first but this was excellent and works very well. Strong signal at all times and arrived looking brand new.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this router, January 20, 2011

My house has a fairly sophisticated home network, so I have a bit of experience in networking but I'm by no means an expert.

My old router was a Linksys WRT54G, which after several years of heavy, reliable use, started to fail. I bought the WRT120N on a whim, since we just needed something to keep the network up. At first, everything was great. Wireless-N was a huge improvement in range over Wireless-G. I set up the router, as well as the wireless devices, media server, etc. It wasn't long until we started having internet problems. Since the replaced WRT54G was also acting up, I thought that the problem was with my modem, or ISP. After a week of headaches, I determined it was the router which frequently dropped internet connection.

I couldn't imagine anyone who would use this router. You essentially need to reset it daily. This is not an uncommon problem - its very well documented that this router is awful.

I ended up installing 3rd party firmware on my WRT54G, and I'm using that - despite being outdated by several years, its much more stable than the WRT120N, which is essentially a paperweight (I actually just threw it in the garbage). Do yourself a favor and don't buy this router. I also wouldn't recommend the WRT54G either, unless you don't want Wireless-N, and are savvy enough to install dd-WRT firmware.

If you want a router, the Linksys E3000 is supposed to be very good. The WRT160N is supposed to be a bit better than the WRT120N, and supports dd-WRT, which I highly recommend.

Easy to setup. No need to call for installation help. But you have to reststart very often . You see it on your wireless devices . It tells you you are connected. But can't finde any website until you restart your modom. Almost daily need to reach out disconnect power. Wait bait reconnect wait for it to go online. Headach. Might be just the unit I bought if not all. Thanks it was from amazon direct. Refunded all my money and provided me with a free return lable.
