5.0 out of 5 stars quick and easy setup, works great
Well, like any product, there are those who love it and those who hate it. Our family likes this wireless G adapter. My husband bought it, and he doesn't know much at all about computers. He plugged it in and Voila! He had internet upstairs and the wireless router is downstairs. He has used it for about 9 months now with no problems and we are buying one for our son's...

When this product works, it works. However it will occasionally shut down and then the only way to reconnect is to shut down the whole computer. If you are in the middle of several things like working on photos, graphics and the internet, you have to shut down all those programs, restart the computer to get the internet to work and then pull up all your work again. He plugged it in and Voila! He had internet upstairs and the wireless router is downstairs. He has used it for about 9 months now with no problems and we are buying one for our son's laptop becuase the internal in his just went bye-bye. Based on our experiences with this item, I recommend this as a low cost way to get wireless on your desktop or laptop.

If you are in the middle of several things like working on photos, graphics and the internet, you have to shut down all those programs, restart the computer to get the internet to work and then pull up all your work again. Simply unplugging the adapter will not do it and there is no way to "repair" connection except shutting down the computer. I've had it with this adapter.

I just bought this product because my built in wireless adapter was broken and I am too lazy to bring it to be repaired. easy to install and plug-and-play.

1.0 out of 5 stars Does not work, December 14, 2008
This review is from: Cisco-Linksys WUSB54GSC Compact Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with SpeedBooster (Personal Computers)
This item did not work with my HP Windows XP computer. I spent three hours on the phone with technical support and they gave up and offered a replacement (I do not think it was a defect in the hardware because tech support came off like they did not have a clue). I bought the equivalent by Netgear and was up and running ten minutes later.

I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it to others. Just remember that at one point in the software installation the computer using the wireless network needs to be physically connected to the wireless router via an ethernet cable. After that, you just disconnect it from the wireless router, set it up wherever you want, and have at it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Warranty Service from Linksys is Horrible!, June 8, 2008
By
This review is from: Cisco-Linksys WUSB54GSC Compact Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with SpeedBooster (Personal Computers)
I spent over an hour troubleshooting it before they finally told me it was probably bad, even after I told them I used it on three separate computers! I am waiting for over three weeks now and the replacement is still on backorder! They refuse to send a new one. Tech support is difficult to understand because it is in a foreign country. Just a warning if yours breaks while under warranty!
Just an update (06/26/08), I got a replacement one that lasted all of two weeks after waiting for almost a month! Here we go RMA all over again!

Easy to install and no problems connecting to my home network. Speed is a little slow and rarely gets above 36kbps compared to the 56kbps advertised. Fine for email and internet surfing but not so good for online gaming.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled! The box LIES! Does not work with VISTA, June 13, 2009
By
This review is from: Cisco-Linksys WUSB54GSC Compact Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with SpeedBooster (Personal Computers)
I am soooooo ticked off! This is my second adapter. The first one that I bought was the Wireless N adapter that Linksys (the box) said was backwards compatible. I could never get it to work. I finally called Linksys and the rep told me that it was not backwards compatible. "The box is wrong". Then I bought this one. Again another lie... The box says it is "VISTA CERTIFIED" Baloney! When I opened the box there was a paper that said I needed to download the Vista drivers from the website, but there were no Vista drivers on the website, only XP. I spent 3-4 hours messing with the stupid thing, until I finally contacted a rep via chat and they told me that the Vista drivers were not available. I am so furious, this is a complete disrespect of my time as a customer. I will never buy a linksys product again!

1.0 out of 5 stars Never Buying Linksys Again, December 20, 2008
This review is from: Cisco-Linksys WUSB54GSC Compact Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with SpeedBooster (Personal Computers)
I purchased this product 10 months ago. It came with EXTREMELY poorly designed software and wouldnt work with secured networks for some reason, but it at least worked for 10 months in our unsecured home network where we use it 99.9% of the time. Then it all of a sudden it was receiving at only 2-5 Mbps, down from 54 Mbps. I called tech support, and they said my warranty ran out-- which i told them was impossible since I had the receipt showing I bought it only 10 months ago and I was in fact out of the country when they said I bought it. I finally convinced them to help me and they got it going to 11 Mbps. The tech support guy then said 11 Mbps is a "good enough speed." I said that I didnt buy this overpriced product for a "good enough speed." He then proceeded to blame the diminished speed on the network, the router (which was a linksys router) etc. I told him that I had 4 other computers using other their own wireless receivers at 54 Mbps without a problem. I was convinced the thing was defective and demanded a replacement but they wouldnt give it to me since it still is technically working. I was very put off by these guys and their defective product. I am positive I won't be buying any more linksys products again.

We bought one of these for a Sony Viao desktop that we were moving into the living room and one for a Sony laptop because it's wireless card stopped functioning. For the desktop, we had a few minor difficulties. The signal was so low that once I tried removing it from the rear of the PC to put in the front it wouldn't recognize it again. I had to uninstall the software and re-install to get it to work. No biggie, and it was a bit glitchy, but once it was set up it worked great. For the laptop...it has driven my husband to the brink of insanity. It won't recognize the unit, he tries to uninstall the software and it locks up and then he has to manually go in an find and delete the files. After no less than 5 tries he still can't get it to work, much less recognize the wireless network that is feet away. He ended up just giving up and buying CAT wire to plug directly into the modem, which of course defeats the purpose of wireless mobility, but at least he isn't packing his bags for the funny farm! So one worked great in the end, with some work, and the other didn't work no matter what. I installed the the working one and he wouldn't let me help with his, so maybe it is user error. So, all in all, if you get it installed and recognized right away, it is a great product. If you don't it will make you want to smash it with a hammer. So this may not be the best review, but it is honest.
