Though this book starts out with the usual descriptions of the OSI model and types of devices, things quickly get more interesting as the fictional ZIP Corporation and its globetrotting network are introduced. (ZIP's network serves as the baseline for discussion and illustration.)
In a testament to their knowledge and skills, Leinwand and company are incredibly thorough in their explanations, yet resist the temptation to overwhelm with too much detail. For example, the chapter on configuration takes you each step of the way, even going so far as to explain how to power up your devices. The rest of the discussion stays on course, though, telling you only what you need to know to get your routers, switches, or what have you up and running. In addition, configuring TCP/IP, AppleTalk, and Internetwork Packet Exchange (IPX) are covered, as are management and administrative topics --Sarah L. Roberts-Witt

Perfect Follow-up to ICRC Book,
This review is from: Cisco Router Configuration (Paperback)
This book is very well written and is a perfect complement to the ICRC book by Laura Chappel. It fills in many of the areas not covered in the ICRC book and also provides easy to understand intros into more complex routing subjects, such as BGP, OSPF, distribute-lists, etc. If you want to learn more about Cisco routing, not just do the minimum to pass the CCNA, this book is for you.

Excellent,

This review is from: Cisco Router Configuration (Paperback)
Who would have thought that a 350 page book on routing could be so comprehensive? This book is a perfect place to start for MCSE's who want to move onto the 'good stuff' - routing with Cisco routers. Use this and the Sybex CCNA Study guide and you'll get through the test no problems.

Excellent multi-protocol book,
By A Customer
This review is from: Cisco Router Configuration (Paperback)
These authors know how to write technical literature that did not confuse me!Our company uses IPX and Appletalk for various departments although we are moving with haste to an all IP shop. I found this book to help me with building a multiprotocol network and to better understand the details of IP routing. The book covered IP routing in depth and covered enough of IPX and Appletalk to help me optimize my network. I found the example network with the full IOS configuration files quite useful.
