Product Description

From the Manufacturer

An Easy Way to Build Out Your Network. Harness the full power of your network over multiple devices, all from the comfort of your desk. Formerly Linksys Business Series, now Cisco Small Business Unmanaged Switches, the SD205 Desktop Switch allows the connection of up to five separate devices into your network. Unlike a network hub, this switch doesn't split your connection, allowing each device to access maximum speeds. The switch auto-negotiates the connection details and you only have to plug in the cable. Integrated features like advanced store-and-forward packet switching and auto partitioning help ensure that the quality of the data passing through the switch is consistent and optimized. The SD205 supports 10BaseT and 100BaseT connections in either half- or full-duplex mode. Using the latter, each port can achieve a maximum speed of 200 Mbps.

Overview

A network solution that works right out of the box, Cisco Small Business Unmanaged Switches are designed with your business's price and performance considerations in mind.

Cisco Small Business Unmanaged Switches support:

  • Flexibility: Cisco Unmanaged Switches operate all along the speed spectrum, offering 10, 100, and 1,000 megabit-per-second connections, depending on the model.
  • Reliability: Consistent uptime doesn't require additional management or hardware tweaking. Just attach your network devices and enjoy the peace of mind that comes with having a reliable switch.
  • Affordability: A Cisco Small Business Unmanaged Switch is designed with your unique business needs in mind. You don't have to commit extra resources or trained staff to get your switch up and running, and you don't have to exceed your budget to get a premium networking solution.

Product Description

This newly-redesigned Linksys 5-Port 10/100 Switch can significantly increase your network traffics speed. A switch serves the same function as a hub in a network design -- tying your network equipment together. But unlike a simple-minded hub which divides the networks bandwidth among all the attached devices, a switch delivers full network speeds at each port. Installing this cost-effective 5-Port 10/100 Switch can potentially increase your network speed by five times. It is the perfect way of integrating 10Mbps Ethernet and 100Mbps Fast Ethernet devices, too. All five ports are auto speed negotiating, and have automatic MDI/MDI-X crossover detection, so you dont have to worry about the cable type. Each port independently negotiates for best speed and half- or full-duplex mode, for up to 200Mbps of bandwidth per port.

5.0 out of 5 stars Linksys SD205, August 23, 2004

This review is from: Cisco SD205 5-port 10/100 Switch (Personal Computers)
This Linksys SD205 switch rules. First, its mesmerizing because its the same size as the Ipod. Second, it does what its advertised such as connecting other computers together and most importantly, it regenerates signal. I was seriously considering buying a repeater, but they cost a couple hundred dollars. Technically, a hub is supposed to do the same thing but who wants that passive crap. The signal in my network started to attenuate and needed regeneration. This badboy fixed it and its back to full strength. I highly recommend this product if you are needing a component to branch out your network.

5.0 out of 5 stars Linksys Switch, January 10, 2007

What I like from this product is the size and flexibility. Since I daisy chain the wired network, I don't have to worry straight or cross over ethernet cable from any ports. With the compact size, I could hide anywhere or even behind the wall.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value - why use a hub, November 2, 2008
This review is from: Cisco SD205 5-port 10/100 Switch (Personal Computers)
I use two of these in my current network. One is near my "computer desk" and the other behind my entertainment center. The one behind the desk is attached to a WRT54G router (which hooks to the cable modem), printer, two NAS drives, and a 50' cable to the entertainment center. That one is attached to a TiVo, Slingbox and PS3.

Setup was a breeze. Just plug them in and hook up your RJ45s and you're good to go. I was running the TiVo on a 802.11b wireless connection and the Slingbox wired. When I got the PS3 I decided that instead of running wires, I'd just put this switch behind the cabinet. or the price, I couldn't see buying hubs and sharing the 100 Mb with all the devices. This way all the devices get ~100 Mb.

It's small and easy to hide, but looks nice if you want to leave it out. I really like this switch. If you're wired and using 100 Mb, this is a great step up from hubs.
