Product Description

The Linksys SRW2008 WebView fully managed switch brings gigabit speeds to your users, while adding a whole new level of intelligence and security to network. The eight 10/100/1000 Mbps ports enable you take advantage of the Gigabit Ethernet interfaces shipping on the current generation of servers, workstations and storage devices, in addition to supporting existing 10/100 Mbps clients. The optional mini-GBIC ports allow you to expand network as your business grows. For security, the SRW2008 incorporates IEEE 802.1 VLANs, IEEE 802.1X port authentication and MAC-based Filtering. Along with that, the switch has Access Control Lists (ACL), which provide more granular security settings, but also improved QoS control through IEEE 802.1p, Diffserv or ToS prioritization schemes. The enhanced QoS capability, combined with the SRW2008s advanced traffic management features ensures clear and reliable voice and video communications. Linksys WebView provides an intuitive, secure management interface enabling you to better utilize the comprehensive feature-set of the SRW2008, resulting in a better optimized, more secure network.

I've had two of these for about two years now (one being used in a hot wiring closet), and they seem to work fine.

Yes, there is some serious stupidity with the management - the serial / CLI functions do very little. The web interface was designed by idiots (slow, cumbersome, and only works with IE). That being said, once it's configured it's not a bad piece of equipment.

I bought this switch about 2 years ago and it has been froze up and rma'd twice.

The so-called webview management ony works on windows with IE, other browsers either fail completely or give partial unworking pages.

The command line options are very limited.

There is also some kind of issue(s) with connecting fast ethernet devices that cause connections to slow or stall. My network consists of this switch, linksys wrt-54 (now with dd-wrt), and some 5 port 10/100 linksys switch.

When the connection slows or stops, I have to reboot each of the devices just to get them to connect again.

Recommend avoid this product at all costs.

Well, I have now owned this for a month. I work at home and I bought a Synology DS1010+ from Amazon. I connected that to my dlink router as I had everything else connected. The first thing I did was copy my gigs upon gigs of data onto my new SAN. That was so very slow. Slow enough I stopped since it was going to take many hours. I thought the SAN was bad or was sold a product that would not perform. After troubleshooting, I figured it must be the router I had, so I researched Amazon extensively and came upon this Cisco switch.

So out of the box it was up and running in about 5 minutes. The speed difference was noticed immediately. My write speed according to Explorer went from 11mb/s to 70mb+/s. I needed into the web interface to set security and to configure two ports to handle the two connections of my SAN. Yes indeed, the web interface is clunky. I am not a network expert by any means, but I am a developer, so if I was not, I am not sure I could have done what I was doing.

Anyway, it runs a little warm since there is no fan in it, but not too hot. I am using 7 of the ports. Other than the configuration reboots, it has been running constantly since I have had it and not once has it needed restarting. My other devices seem to be more stable as well. So far, well worth the investment. Now I know what having 1GB speed per port really means. Most other routers may have "GB" ports, but they do not operate at those speeds like this Cisco switch does.
