POORLY DONE AND OVERPRICED,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cissy Identification & Price Guide (Hardcover)
This book, put together by Glenn Mandeville and Benita Cohen Schwartz, was a big disappointment. The poor quality of the photos does not justify the price. The mostly dark, grainy and sometimes out of focus photos were apparently not taken by professional photographers but were submitted by the doll owners themselves. The reading isn't much better, most of it consisting of what was happening in the world (fads, politics, television, movies, music, discoveries etc.) from year to year as Cissy dolls and her fashions were introduced into the market. And although the price guide refers to the original Madame Alexander numbering system to identify the Cissy clothing, those numbers were not even used in the descriptions of the clothing pictured in the book. The only good thing I can say about this book is that there were a few rare outfits pictured that I had not seen before.

Very good book on Cissy,

Very good book.
I enjoyed the history of Cissy. There are lots of pictures of Cissy, but I think they could have been done more professionally. Many of them looked dark. Overall, a good book. |
