5.0 out of 5 stars MUST READING: THE SINGLE BEST BOOK ON THIS SUBJECT
There is simply no one writing on this topic today who has a firmer grasp of the subject, a clearer literary style of writing, or a finer mind than Professor Charles Lipson of the University of Chicago. Buy this book, give it to your friends, especially those who are in school, or are about to embark on high school, college or graduate work of any kind, including law,...

This may be a good reference book for those who have a working knowledge of this subject, but buyer beware, that's all it is.

In the instructions regarding my first essay assignment, the professor said to "use MLA or APA." Having no instruction in English over the past 36 years, and no idea what this meant, I looked it up on the internet and ordered this...

There is simply no one writing on this topic today who has a firmer grasp of the subject, a clearer literary style of writing, or a finer mind than Professor Charles Lipson of the University of Chicago. Buy this book, give it to your friends, especially those who are in school, or are about to embark on high school, college or graduate work of any kind, including law, natural and social sciences as well as the humanities. With clear examples, admirable (but not in the least tiring) detail, Professor Lipson hits this one out of the park. He is the nation's, indeed the world's leading expert on the topics addressed in this book. No home should be without it, and no young person should enter college without having read it the summer before college begins. I cannot recommend it highly enough---although I am certainly trying to do so.

5.0 out of 5 stars good basic all-around reference, June 26, 2007

This review is from: Cite Right: A Quick Guide to Citation Styles--MLA, APA, Chicago, the Sciences, Professions, and More (Chicago Guides to Writing, Editing, and Publishing) (Paperback)
I like this book a lot. I'm a mid-life returning graduate student who's halfway through my program. Although I have the APA Manual, I still refer to this book for APA as well as MLA and legal citations. I like the fact that it lists in-text and works cited together so you can see how to cite within the body of your writing and at the end. A very worthwhile book to have on your reference shelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book!, October 30, 2007
This review is from: Cite Right: A Quick Guide to Citation Styles--MLA, APA, Chicago, the Sciences, Professions, and More (Chicago Guides to Writing, Editing, and Publishing) (Paperback)
The examples are clear and make it easy to understand how to use each reference style. I use APA in grad school and MLA as a teacher, so having both styles in one book is very helpful to me. This a a solid guide to ALL citation styles. If you don't want to buy all separate guides, this is a good way to go. It is the perfect book for a college or master's level grad student.

Why CITE RIGHT? Because careful citation of the sources you use in anything from a term paper in high school or college to a Master's thesis to a doctoral dissertation to an article for a a publication of any kind, including a law review or a medical journal all require accurate and proper attribution of your source materials. This book will explain the straightforward hows and whys of this essential aspect of writing anything that is based in part on the research of others. If you know how to CITE RIGHT and understand the reasons behind proper citation, you will avoid the worst fate to which a writer can be subjected: charges of plagiarism or sloppiness. Once a writer has such a reputation, it is well-nigh impossible to wipe the slate clean and start fresh. A reputation for sloppy writing and/or plagiarism will stay with you forever. Being very careful and doing it right will save you from all the negative consequences of getting it wrong. So click on the book and buy it! You won't regret it. It is written in an admirably clear style, and is easy for both American and international students to understand. With University of Chicago Professor Charles Lipson as your guide, you'll not only CITE RIGHT, you'll do well in all your research work because your readers---be they your high school teachers, college professors, fellow lawyers or physicians or academics in all fields will trust that you have done your work with the care and precision required of you. A great addition to your library---for life.

If you are a college student and find APA, Turabian or other styles to be a challenge, this book takes the guess work out of it all. A definite plus for writing college papers including graduate and post graduate level work.

In the instructions regarding my first essay assignment, the professor said to "use MLA or APA." Having no instruction in English over the past 36 years, and no idea what this meant, I looked it up on the internet and ordered this book. In the second chapter: "The Basics of Citation," there is no mention or explanation of basic elements that must be entered into a citation.
