A very well-written collection of stories from the viewpoint of survivors all over the world. The author shows us the events leading up to the apocalypse with the encounter of the possible origin of the Zombie infection (very rare in the zombie apocalypse genre) & Patient Zero all the way up to surviving years after things fall apart.

Zombies!
Moments of Suspense!
Zombies!
Detailed storylines!
Did i mention Zombies?

If you are a Zombie story fan, this is worth your money!

This is a series of short stories told from the point of view of different characters who are not necessarily in the same direct story line. If you like Max Brooks' technique of telling a series of short, interconnected stories you will probably like this book (even though this one is different in the sense that the narratives are not as interwoven and don't lead to a conclusion in the same way).

I rated this a 3 star, because it really isn't even close to as good as World War Z, but what the heck -- it was a good zombie read and they are not as plentiful as they might be. Knowing what I know about it, I would definitely buy it again.

I didn't like the "evolving" zombies with greater and greater powers, however. For the record, it cheapens the narrative in the same way that inventing mysterious and new technologies without any logical provenance cheapens science fiction. Mouths magically getting larger, teeth sharper and nails longer? Super fast zombies working in teams with slow zombies? Zombie contagion being passed through airborne particles has some potential, but one would think such a vector would result in a very short book -- everybody dead or zombie in just a few months.

William Young has done a great job creating a zombie splatter-fest from several points of view across the globe all while keeping the story coherent and readable. Looking forward to the next book.

This is a very nice collection of short stories. Most stand on their own but a few intertwine including the story of patient zero who was the first victim in the zombie apocalypse. Inside are stories that include:

-a group of tourists who fly to Los Angeles to see the sights but end up quarantined after another passenger becomes sick.

-fifteen year old Ralph McGuire who is left behind to guard his family's home after zombies come to town. Chaos ensues.

-a man in Nashville who tried to break into country music without success finds something he excels at.

- a college student who finds a measure of peace in a world filled with zombies.

-a group of people who stop to look at what they believe is the filming of a zombie movie in a local graveyard.

-two Russian men who set their priorities for the end of the world.

-how a young man spends his last days as a human.

-how the meaning of family undergoes a change in a zombie filled world.

-young men debating the merits of fight vs. flight, and

-a young boy who must learn to leave old world values behind.

One of the things that impressed me most about this collection is that it is written by one author. If that sounds weird let me explain. There are twenty stories in the book that ALL deal with zombies. In order to create twenty stories that don't keep covering the same ground takes a great deal of imagination (not to mention a whole lot of time spent thinking about zombies). There are a few characteristics that remain the same- zombies love brains and prefer their food uncooked- but there are more that are quite different.

This is one of my favorite zombie novels. I like the characters, which are remarkably well developed considering their short literary presence in the book. I had a hard time putting my kindle down while reading this book, and several days later, I am still thinking about some of the stories. You will not regret getting this book. It is a really good read.
