Great Book,
By L.Q.C. Elmer (The Pine Barrens) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cities In The Wilderness - The First Century Of Urban Life In America 1625-1742 (Paperback)
This is a great book. No, it isn't new or flashy, but it is an intelligent, well written, very useful account of the rise of cities of colonial America. If you want to understand the beginnings of urban life in the thirteen colonies, this is the book to read first.

Excellent Colonial America Social History...,
By Bucky (Massachusetts, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cities In The Wilderness - The First Century Of Urban Life In America 1625-1742 (Hardcover)
A first-rate social history of the five leading cities in the American colonies. I first read this book c. 1971 for a weekend history course I was taking at Univ. of Nebraska at Omaha. I still have the paperback textbook, and will read it again someday. Truly, a classic work.
