Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The Citizen Calibre 5700 stainless steel men's watch is loaded with style and powerful timekeeping features, with its one-second chronograph measuring up to 30 minutes. It's also powered by Citizen's unique Eco-Drive, which absorbs sunlight and any artifical light through the crystal and dial to recharge the watch continuously. With regular exposure to light, the Eco-Drive continuously recharges itself for a lifetime of use. It has a 150-day power reserve and a low-charge indicator.

This watch has a large, round silver stainless steel watch case--which measures 42mm (1.65 inches) wide and 12mm (0.47 inches) deep--that's topped by a unidirectional rotating bezel with black engraved markings and coin-edged detailing. The dark blue dial background is accented by silver tone subdials, luminous hands, and baton dial markers. Other features include a date display at 4 o'clock, scratch resistant mineral crystal with anti-reflective coating, and water resistance to 200 meters (660 feet).

Eco-Drive Frequently Asked Questions
How can you tell if the Eco-Drive watch is getting enough light?
In normal use, the watch displays the time and the sweep-second hand moves in one second intervals. A very important feature of Eco-Drive is the Low Charge Warning Mode which as a result of low battery voltage, causes the second hand to jump two seconds at a time (while still keeping correct time).

How long will an Eco-Drive watch run after it is fully charged?
If your watch is put away where no light is available to it while in a fully charged state, depending on the model, it will run from 45 days to 5 years.

How can the Eco-Drive watch be recharged?
Besides sunlight, it can be safely charged by exposing it to a fluorescent desk lamp, with the dial (face) up and within about 8 inches or exposit it to an incandescent lamp (regular light bulb) no closer than 20 inches. Never use a halogen lamp since the heat generated by it can cause damage to your watch. The most efficient and the quickest recharging method is direct bright sunlight (not from a window sill) and never on the dashboard of a car.

The Citizen Story

The company was established in 1924. The founding fathers selected the name Citizen so it would be ""Close to the Hearts of People Everywhere"" and soon after adopted the company’s formal name, Citizen Watch Company.

During the last seventy-five years Citizen has expanded its business throughout the world and has achieved recognition as the global brand. The past twenty-five year period has coincided with the company’s dramatic rise to its current position as the world’s largest watchmaker, a distinction Citizen has held every year since 1986.

Beyond sheer size, Citizen is also recognized as a worldwide leader in advanced technology. From the world’s slimmest LCD watch to the first voice recognition watch and the world’s first professional dive watch with an electronic depth sensor, Citizen’s record of ""world’s firsts"" is unmatched.

More recently, Citizen has staked out a new position as the leader in timekeeping with its Eco-Drives watches that are light powered. With models ranging from dress models to sports models to professional dive watches, Citizen Eco-Drive runs continuously in any kind of natural or artificial light for a lifetime of use. Fueled by light, it never needs a battery.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good features, great price, only one complaint., February 9, 2006
This review is from: Citizen Men's AT1070-54L Calibre 5700 Eco-Drive Watch (Watch)
I am very happy with this watch. The weight of the watch is substantial - the entire thing is stainless steel. The links of the bracelet are a combination of brushed/polished which compliment each other well. Unfortunately, after just a couple days, I have noticed that the back of the case tends to scratch easily from rubbing against it's own bracelet. The clasp is one of the better ones I've seen. It's a pushbutton foldover with a secondary latch -- very secure. The bezel turns easily in one direction - however, it doesn't have as firm a feel as my Tag diver's. There is a bit of floating movement in the bezel when you press down on the top. Out of the box, the watch charged up very quickly to full power; I just left it sitting on my desk for a few hours under normal room lighting. And then... it stays charged for months even if you put it in a drawer. The accuracy is very good - it's essentially a quartz movement running under a solar rechargable battery so it's much more accurate than my seiko automatic. The manual states that it's accurate to +/- 15 seconds a month, but I really haven't noticed much of any loss/gain of time.

I'd say my only major complaint is that the second hand of the chronograph timer does not reset exactly back to zero on my particular watch. It seems to be right in the middle of two tick marks. Not too big of a deal in terms of functionality, but the little imperfections really bug me. It must be a quality control/calibration issue.

Good value for the money. Paid less than half what I would have ended up paying at a local department store.
