Since its foundation in 1930, CITIZEN has promoted a multi-cultural mindset that fosters excellence and creativity. The very name of the brand conveys a deep respect toward craftsmanship and considered as familiar by citizens the world-over. So as a “citizen” of the world, we bear the responsibility to help cultivate a culture of positive change and on-going evolution through our craft. We take that mission seriously and steadfastly welcome what the future may bring.

As a true manufacture d’horlogerie, CITIZEN integrates a comprehensive manufacturing process from creating individual components to a watch’s final assembly. It’s an artisan’s approach to watch making based on pushing forward the boundaries of technology and leveraging our experience toward exploring new possibilities.

One pivotal technological breakthrough was the development of a light-driven watch. CITIZEN pioneered this engineering innovation well ahead of other watch manufacturers as early as 1976, which led to the launch of the highly acclaimed Eco-Drive in 1995. Utilizing electrical power converted from virtually any light source, this extraordinary innovation changed forever the way watches could be powered. Eco-Drive eliminated the need to ever replace batteries, which made it especially beneficial to areas where such specialist batteries were not obtainable. This leveled the field for citizens of virtually every country to be able to experience unrestricted joy of wearing and using a CITIZEN watch.

The product development policy, “The Fusion of Technology and Beauty,” remains a constant motivation for us to merge cutting-edge technology with perfection of design beauty, which as a consequence inspires people to strive to be their best at any time.

CITIZEN launches a new campaign in collaboration with Wieden+Kennedy, Better Starts Now. This is the simple belief that no matter who you are or what you do, it is always possible to make something better — and now is the time to start doing it. We believe that better and now are both infinite, and that there is always a next ‘better’ and a new ‘now’ in which you can start pursuing it. It was clear from the onset of this project that we are dedicated to this ideal…not to the past but to the present, and all the way we can improve it. To help communicate this belief to the world we have created a new global CITIZEN brand movie, brand identity and brand website that represents out Better Starts Now philosophy.

I have received many compliments on its look just wearing it for a few days.

My dad and I both love Breitling branded watches and I decided to buy this for him since it looks so much like one of Breitling's popular models.

The setting of time, date, functions, etc IS a bit cumbersome BUT this watch, overall, is a homerun.

I received this watch as a wedding gift from my bride/now wife. I had a hand in picking out the watch because I have very picky tastes when it comes to watches, and few watch bands fit my wrist without adding links.

    Pros:
    Durable & well-designed
    Easy to use
    Perpetual calendar
    Classy

    Cons:
    Documentation limited
    Chronograph limited

So far, this has been an outstanding watch. I ride horses and I do a lot of things that can be hard on watches, and so far, the watch face, band, and housing haven't picked up so much as a nick in the 3 months that I've had it. I am very impressed with the durability of this watch. By comparison, other watches I have owned have had a scratched face within 1-2 months out at the barn.

I have had to do a full reset on my watch, and the instructions worked well. The watch hands were off slightly when I brought the watch home, and after reading the manual, I was able to determine the steps and follow them step-by-step without an issue. After two months, the watch hands have not wandered again, so this was just a one-off event.

The perpetual calendar is a nice feature. Having rolled through a couple of month changes, the day is still showing the correct day of the month. When they say set once and never set it again, they meant it.

If you are buying this watch for the chronograph feature, consider carefully whether you need something more robust than what this watch has. As explained to me by the jeweler (and covered in the manual), the chronograph only counts up to 1 hour. If you need to measure longer than an hour (useful when horseback riding), you may need to consider getting a stopwatch or a different watch.

I love this watch and have worn it 24/7 for 3 years now. No scratches on the face, no issues with the movement, and looks almost new. I'm in the military and have worn this watch while deployed to Afghanistan. I thought for sure I would break it there but nope! This is my second Citizen watch, and I see no reason for another one any time soon.

This watch is slightly larger than the Nighthawk models, but still has the slide-rule bezel. It isn't distracting large, unless you have skinny wrists. It arrived with the year/month/date already set, I just had to change the time to my time zone, which was easy enough.

The crystal is flat, not rounded, which looks great. The watch is "shinier" in person than in the picture, especially around the bezel. The hands and hour markers have a really good lume effect in the dark.

The case back is rather bland, just a generic Citizen Eco Drive logo, but you won't be looking at that 99% of the time anyhow.

Very happy to own this watch. It resembles a Brietling Navitimer for under $400 which I'm sure is no accident.

I bought this watch as a Christmas gift for my father since it was such an eye-catcher walking around the jewelry store. My dad and I both love Breitling branded watches and I decided to buy this for him since it looks so much like one of Breitling's popular models. The watch is decently big, has a gorgeous face and is lightweight. I prefer heavier watches but I know my dad does not.

Anyways, this watch is sure to catch a lot of attention with the wonderful detail that was bestowed upon its design. The fact that the watch functions on solar power and on artificial light is an even bigger plus.

The build on the watch is great. The stainless steel and glass look promising although slightly flimsy since the watch feels so lightweight.

The only drawbacks I can say about the watch (and I won't get into specifics) are the complications one has to go through to manipulate the time, date and its other features. For example: To change the time you ave to click one knob until the second hand is perfectly aligned, then release two different knobs, then release the middle one, correct the time and then do another complicated set of tasks to return it back to original state to wear it. The watch even has a feature to correct daylight savings time. This process is part of the time changing process but requires extra steps. For a watch, it's beautiful and all but has so many features that it makes the watch extremely complicated to do simple tasks like changing time.

Don't let this stop you, though. The watch is definitely worth the price and time that could be spent on it and I have never had any problems with Citizens (there are 3 in my home). But as a fair warning, the manual will not tell you how to function with the watch (or at least my manual didn't). You will have to research the instructions at the citizen watch website. All I can say is if you get the hang of it, you have one insanely powerful watch on your wrist.

I use to both fly and race cars so when the time came to look for a new timepiece this one stood out and kinda spoke my name It had a lot of features that I found would be useful but above all this watch could be put down and forgotten for a few days and when you did pick it back up again it would still be on time and ticking away . Such are the rewarding features of these Eco drive Citizen watches . First just let me state I do not represent them in any way shape or form...just purely a user who stupidly misplaced my other chronograph two months ago and still cannot find where that mischievous leprechaun has hidden it.!! (Thats a familiar problem of getting old) . Last time I misplaced it.... I found it had slid down the back of the chair for 3 weeks l....and still working. So now I needed a replacement for that missing timepiece. To be honest I really wanted a Blue Angles edition that recorded Hours...but for half the price I found this Citizen masterpiece.

Now lets get down to the watch. Yes, I will be the first to admit the watch get's frequent admiring glances as it is a mans, man watch. A few minor points cause it to loose a couple of stars of what would have been a perfect time piece
    1) . The designer for some idiotic reason has in my opinion misused the title of Chronometer. The importance of a chronometer is being able to read at a quick glance the time elapsed and especially the second hand. This is vital for precise timing but in this case with this very thin second hand it is not at all easy to be seen whereas it should be very easy to read to identify.
    2) It only times to ONE HOUR !!! Obviously the designer never went out anywhere. I guess Citizen wants you to buy a genuine chronometer such as the Blue Angels watch but thats a lot more money.
