During the last seventy-five years Citizen has expanded its business throughout the world and has achieved recognition as the global brand. The past twenty-five year period has coincided with the company’s dramatic rise to its current position as the world’s largest watchmaker, a distinction Citizen has held every year since 1986.
Beyond sheer size, Citizen is also recognized as a worldwide leader in advanced technology. From the world’s slimmest LCD watch to the first voice recognition watch and the world’s first professional dive watch with an electronic depth sensor, Citizen’s record of ""world’s firsts"" is unmatched.
More recently, Citizen has staked out a new position as the leader in timekeeping with its Eco-Drives watches that are light powered. With models ranging from dress models to sports models to professional dive watches, Citizen Eco-Drive runs continuously in any kind of natural or artificial light for a lifetime of use. Fueled by light, it never needs a battery.

I bought this watch to replace an aging Seiko 5 self-winder that no longer kept accurate time. I learned that the Seiko could be serviced to improve its accuracy, but at a considerable cost. So after studying various types and makes of watches on line, I opted for an Eco-Drive.
This model is beautiful! It is an understated metallic grey, and looks and feels like a quality timepiece. It was extremely easy to set up, and I'm looking forward to many years of service from it.

I bought this item as a reaction to having to replace batteries in watches and not being able to do that myself. This would get 5 stars but the band that comes with the watch is cheaper than that of a $30 Timex.

yes, but...,
This review is from: Citizen Men's BM8450-94A Eco-Drive Flexible Band Stainless Steel Watch (Watch)
The solar-powered feature, if it lasts (it's a new idea), was a plus. The case diameter is larger than "classical," that is, it's 37 mm I think. So if you like the smaller, more traditional size just beware. There were two disappointments. First and foremost, the photo, both here in Amazon and on the Princeton Watches site where I bought it (couldn't find it on the Citizen's site [?]), suggest the watch is of a bright Silver color, and kind of classy, as I saw it. Not true. It is more of a (steel) nickel color. Secondly, the watch case is on the thick side, if you were hoping for slim. Again the photos don't help here. As I said, I like the solar angle, but I keep wishing I'd bought the blue-faced, Seiko w/ the flexible band, even it meant paying the local jewelry shop owner too much for a second-rate battery in a couple of years. Still, I think I'll keep it for $112.50, partly because it's a pain sending it back, and partly as an experiment in solar power.
