Product Description

Embrace the effortless style that comes with a Citizen Eco-Drive watch. Imaging never having to worry about winding a watch or making sure it has a functional battery. The perfect everyday timepiece that rarely requires your attention, wearing an Eco-Drive allows you to turn your attention to the more important things in life.

The company was established in 1924. The founding fathers selected the name Citizen so it would be "Close to the Hearts of People Everywhere" and soon after adopted the company’s formal name, Citizen Watch Company.

During the last seventy-five years Citizen has expanded its business throughout the world and has achieved recognition as the global brand. The past twenty-five year period has coincided with the company’s dramatic rise to its current position as the world’s largest watchmaker, a distinction Citizen has held every year since 1986.

Beyond sheer size, Citizen is also recognized as a worldwide leader in advanced technology. From the world’s slimmest LCD watch to the first voice recognition watch and the world’s first professional dive watch with an electronic depth sensor, Citizen’s record of "world’s firsts" is unmatched.

More recently, Citizen has staked out a new position as the leader in timekeeping with its Eco-Drives watches that are light powered. With models ranging from dress models to sports models to professional dive watches, Citizen Eco-Drive runs continuously in any kind of natural or artificial light for a lifetime of use. Fueled by light, it never needs a battery.

Pros: Titanium band, bezel and case
    Chronograph
    Solar Powered
    Sapphire Crystal Face
    Large face
    Luminosity

Cons: Date hand does not automatically adjust to months with less than 31 days
Black coloring may show scratches more easily than titanium without coating

This watch had all the qualities I required in a present for my other half. It's titanium, so despite the fact that the face is large, it's lightweight. The face is large enough to make a statement without being ridiculously over-sized. It's solar powered, so no more worrying about batteries. It's got a chronograph so that certainly makes keeping track of small moments of time during the day much easier. The luminosity on the hands and at each hour is bright enough to see in the dark without keeping you up all night long.

I generally like the Eco-drive concept and have a number of Citizen watches. All previous models have been sliver/chrome and this time I decided to try black. Watch, face and bezel are fine but the band paint, I honestly expected anodized aluminum or equivalent - something with wear resistance, began rubbing off with the first day of wear.

Took it to an "Authorized" Citizen repair facility within 30 days of purchase and was informed that Citizen does not warranty the band on any of their watches.

Lastly, the date wheel is behind the solar cell and is so deep it is virtually unreadable. On previous models, it is white with black numerals and is much closer to the face thus relatively easy to read.

Best to avoid this and similar models for now.

Citizen Eco-Drive watches are the next iteration of technology between battery and the more traditional winding or even "automatic" watch that relies on your body movement. This watch simply changes light (natural or artificial) into power that is stored in a special battery. What makes this so unique is that you get the benefits of a more expensive self-wind or automatic watch, but not the cost. Regular battery operated watches require you to change out the batteries every few years, which is a pain and if not done professionally, can break the waterproof seal and other internal components. Self-wind and automatic watches have no battery, but require you to constantly wind or wear them in order to keep them working through the ages (Note: these two types of watches, if properly taken care of can last for generations).

With Eco-Drive, Citizen seems to have found the best of both worlds. Properly taken care of, this watch claims it will last for generations as well (sorry, just got it, so unable to test that claim yet) and considering that the battery should hold a charge for 6 months at a time (when fully charged) I would say they obviously did a pretty good job.

But enough about the technology - let's move on to the actual watch. It is lightweight (titanium construction), elegantly designed, and easy to read. The sapphire glass (top of the line for watches) is clear and bright. Also, whether I am in direct sunlight or under artificial light, I don't see any glare. The movement, thus far, is accurate and hasn't lost any time yet (which some cheaper watches do within the first few weeks of ownership). The band, which came larger than I needed, was easy enough to shorten and well-constructed.

This is a great titanium model and I love the eco drive aspect, but just wish that the black paint hadnt come off in scratches. The layer underneath is gray so you can definitely tell where it has been scratched from everyday wear and tear. Also the calendar is not digital so you have to reset it almost every other month.

I like the titanium and very like the Citizen company. My previous watch was also Citizen, but from Basic Titanium line (BTW, they still up and running without issues already 5 years!) but I was looking to expand my watch portfolio for different styles.
Black titanium it`s just amaizin look and feel. Tottaly recommend for everybody who like titanium and chronograph series... It`s Awesome.
And forget about batteries! Sun & Light - that everything you and your watch needed to live forever!

This model is my new favorite. I love the look of the black titanium.

I own both Citizen & Seiko light powered watches and have had zero failures and zero accuracy problems.

I do have a couple of minor preference issues with this model (but note that neither deterred me from buying it). I wish it was thinner and that the chronograph sweep hand was a traditional second-hand.

    SUMMARY
I strongly recommend this watch & would buy it again without hesitation. Shop around for the best value. At this price-point it's hard to beat.

    Happy hunting.

UPDATE: I have to agree with other reviewers that the metal on this watch does show scratches more easily than I would like - but it's not terrible. I have not experienced any of the color wearing off.
    I'd still buy it again.

I love this watch. It feels good and solid not featherweight. I work on computers workstations and servers for a living and can be hard on watches and this is Titanium and holds up to it all. I did think it was going to be featherweight being made of Titanium but it feels extra heavy I am sure its the internals and crystal. I normally kill watches in about 6mo to a year (Seiko, Timex, Casio not cheap plastic ones. 100 to 150 dollar ones.) and this one after 4 months looks brand new. It took a little to get the band adjusted. I had to have one link pulled and there is also a fine adjustment in the clasp that is like a millimeter at a time. Links are 3 or 5 millimeters at a time. Final word Love it.
