A timekeeping masterpiece!, May 20, 2009
This review is from: Citizen Men's JY0075-54E Eco-Drive Promaster Carbon Chronograph Stainless Steel Watch (Watch)
I just received this great watch today. It's better than I expected, and the pictures online don't do it justice!! The things that sold me on it included the Eco-drive; multi-band, radio controlled atomic timekeeping; separate UTC and world time functions; 200 meter water resistance; its overall great design; the stainless steel construction and the perfect size - a 45mm case. (the 45mm case looks fine on my 7.25 inch wrist; but I probably wouldn't want to go any larger than that, personally) I wanted a good looking, rugged watch that will always keep good time, and the part about never needing to replace the battery is awesome! The hands and markers on the dial are also luminescent, and show up nicely in the dark. Both the watch face and the band are beautiful, and make this watch look like it's worth every penny I paid for it. (and more) On top of that, you get a 5 year warranty when buying from amazon, so what's not to like?!! I'm very happy with my purchase and expect this watch to be a favorite of mine for a very long time. I'm starting to become a pseudo-watch collector, and this is the first Citizen watch I've owned. But judging from this one watch so far...it won't be the last!

What A Great Watch!, December 2, 2009
This review is from: Citizen Men's JY0075-54E Eco-Drive Promaster Carbon Chronograph Stainless Steel Watch (Watch)
My Promaster Carbon showed up a few days ago. I've been using a Citizen Skyhawk for about 8 or 9 years. The two greatest features of that watch are the Eco-Drive solar power and the really slick way you can change timezones. The Promaster takes all the best features of the Skyhawk, adds the radio controlled accuracy, and improves on some things. It is a bigger watch, but the dial is easier to read. It has luminous marks for all the hours, plus a luminous reference spot on the rotating bezel. The hands are nice and big and have good luminous characteristics. The Promaster has a feature on the bracelet that allows you to expand the size from you normal adjustment in case you need to wear it over one layer of clothing. This watch has the Citizen fold-over latch which helps prevent accidental openings of the bracelet. One thing I never needed/used on the Skymaster was the rotating calculator thingy -- which just cluttered things up and didn't rotate all that well anyway. I'll let the pilots up front figure out the time:distance stuff -- hopefully they won't be squinting at teeny-tiny numbers on a watch bezel. To change modes on the Promaster you to pop the crown out one click, which solves the problem that the Skyhawk has -- self mode-changing through normal wearing (modes change with the crown in the home position). Since buying the Sykhawk I've been a fan of Citizen watches. The Skyhawk lost maybe 15 seconds a year the first 5 years of use (checked with a GPS). Eco-Drive just makes sense. I've had Seikos which had some of the most bizarre controls, and Casio seems to overreach with features that are flashy, but which don't work all that well -- and that you probably don't need anyway. The Promaster is one of those watches you look forward to using for many years to come.

Awesome watch, September 10, 2009
This review is from: Citizen Men's JY0075-54E Eco-Drive Promaster Carbon Chronograph Stainless Steel Watch (Watch)
I've had this watch for about a month and so far I love it. It's big and bulky and definitely not light weight if that is what you are looking for. Some of the other Citizen watches have titanium bands that would probably make them lighter weight, but I prefer the overall look and durability of stainless. The carbon fiber bezel is really slick looking and gives it a very unique look. I also love how the band is click adjustable. I removed enough links to get the band comfortable on my wrist right in the middle of the adjustability. That way I have equal room to go longer or shorter. This is a nice feature that I've never had on a watch before. Our wrists are never a constant diameter and it's nice to be able to quickly and easily adjust the band slightly so it's not uncomfortable at certain times like when working out. Compared to some other multi-function watches I've had, I have to say the instructions are pretty straightforward and using the watch is pretty intuitive overall. It's got a nice bright orange LED back light for the two LCD screens. The solar powered battery is great and so is the radio-controlled atomic time synchronization that automatically synchronizes every night. These are by far the two best features of the watch and were my main criteria when searching for one. I'll never have to replace a battery and never have to adjust the time. Plus, the watch comes with a 5 year warranty, which is pretty unbeatable nowadays. I only have a couple of very minor complaints. It'd be nice if there was another small white LED light that illuminated the rest of the watch for when the glow-in-the-dark paint is too dim to help read the time the dark. It'd also be nice if you could get it to display the date for the home timezone. It only displays the date for the world timezone, so unless you set your world timezone to the same as your home timezone, the date could be off by a day depending on how many hours different your world timezone is set to. Overall, I would definitely recommend this watch and it blows away my friend's TAG Heuer watch that cost over a grand. It looks better, it has WAY more features and it's a great price at just under $600.
