5.0 out of 5 stars Armored soldier's perspective on Remagen,Bulge,Buchenwald, June 17, 1996

This review is from: A Citizen-Soldier Remembers 1942-1946: 149th Armored Signal Company of the 9th Armored Divison (Hardcover)
I was fascinated with the human part of
this soldier's efforts and his impact in World War II.The way
soldier's were treated, the sacrifices they endured, their
level of patriotism and homesickness, the friends they
made and lost, and the constant push to win a war for
freedom was well developed. The characters had great depth.
The book carries the reader from battle to battle, human
story to human story and is truly captivating. The story of
the war, the battles, the perspective from a soldier in the
armored division, and the personal stories draw the reader
into a time that is very different that what we live today.
The stories of the largest battle the U. S. has ever been
in, The Battle of the Bulge, the capture of the Bridge at
Remagen, the freeing of captives of Buchenwald, and the
commanders of the 9th Armored Division being petitioned
for surrender in Czechoslavakia were well developed.
It is difficult to imagine our country having 12 million
soldiers dedicated to this effort and how they lived and
fought. The is a book well worth reading.
