I simply can't stop listening to this song. I first heard it before a movie in a commercial for the National Guard and it just blew me away. Check out the music video if you can.

I first encountered the video in the theater and was hooked. As a retired military officer and metal head, I loved the music and the message. Simply, it touched my heart.

"Citizen/Soldier" was released as a single by 3 Doors Down in November 2007 in conjunction with a recruitment campaign by the United States National Guard. It was re-released as a single for American active rock and mainstream rock radio stations in November 2008. A music video released to movie theaters, the National Guard website, and other outlets portrays the history of the Guard and employs current members of the Guard as actors.I first heard "Citizen/Soldier" in the video shown in movie theaters about three years ago. It's a rousing, spirited song that got my blood going, especially during the part in the video where the American patriots are skirmishing with the British Redcoats. "Citizen/Soldier" is one of the twelve tracks on the 3 Doors Down album named - simply enough - "3 Doors Down." I've heard some of the other tracks, enough to know it's a fine album for 3 Doors Down fans, but "Citizen/Soldier" is my favorite. It's a 5-star winner for sure.

3 Doors Down's "Citizen/Soldier" is a muscular anthem that the US Army has been using in its recruiting videos. The "Citizen/Solder" video is often aired along with movie trailers. In the video,3 Doors Down waves the flag as American soldiers of various eras (Revolutionary War,Civil War,WWII) fight upon the battlefield. It's supposed to evoke the love of country as it praises soldiers risking and losing their lives for truth, freedom, and the American Way.Unfortunately,it's bland and boring. It comes across as Nickelback/Hinder/Creed-soundalike propaganda. The obnoxious growling of the singers (and the fact that it's simply loud) is enough to drive one into the arms of Code Pink and MoveOn. It makes Dave Matthews performing at the DNC in Denver sound pleasant in comparison. "Citizen/Soldier" is meant to be patriotic. Instead,it's all-American music at its dullest and most forgettable. |
