5.0 out of 5 stars Love this watch! May 8, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this watch after discovering that I love scuba diving! I have always liked Citizen watches for their quality and reliability. This watch is no exception. It is very stylish, durable, keeps perfect time and is totally green! Just wear it, and under normal use, it will stay charged forever, no batteries to buy every few years, no watch battery dying at just the wrong time. Actually, my husband and I each got one of these watches after his watch died on vacation, in a rather remote location where there were no replacement batteries. Do yourself a favor, if you need a reliable watch that looks great, and keeps even Al Gore happy, buy this watch. Oh, and this is a great price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fine quality woman's sports watch April 13, 2006
By June
This is a fine quality women's sports watch. The look is Rolex Submariner in style. The brushed steel casing is very nice quality, and the crystal is superior. This eco-drive watch never stops, so they say, and is solar powered. My problem: few women's sports watches are both small, good looking, and super-water tight. The closest I have found had a plastic top, which scratched easily. I'm rather hard on it, and it looks gorgeous, continually. No stopwatch function, but superior for saltwater swimming and saunas. Bezel hour-measure is first I've had, and is really handy for both duration and time-setting within the hour. The clock itself has such a lovely deep rich look, and I may get a different band if the rubberized one disappoints, over time...but I'm told I won't any longer need a new women's sports watch every second year.

. . . and now it is Summer, 2009, and this watch just keeps looking gorgeous. I'm sure I'm knocking it constantly, and the edges and crystal show absolutely no signs of wear. I changed bands to a brushed steel bracelet style with cross-latch under, and it suits the watch much better than the rubbery band that followed with the purchase. A real hardy winner of a watch!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely perfect sports watch! February 17, 2008

I have been looking for a diving watch that will fit my 5'2" frame so I can wear it everyday instead of just for diving. I even considered buying a small men's watch and just dealing with the largeness. Then I was on vacation when my $20 watch died and found this watch in a mall near where I stayed. I bought it right away because it fit perfectly and looked great! When I went back to the hotel room, I logged on to check the price online. I had to return my watch to the store and buy it from Amazon instead because even with overnight shipping I saved over $50 and the store couldn't match the price!!! I like the watchband because I am a diver but could see how others wouldn't because it is sort of rubberized like normal scuba diving equipment. I haven't tried it diving yet but have showered in it and it's done fine -- no clouding or anything. I LOVE the no-battery aspect of this watch. The watch's use of solar power is just so great. I expect the glowing numbers to work well underwater as well but the glowing isn't annoying during normal use. I've had it about 6 weeks now and it's never lost time or run out of energy yet. I expect it to last for decades to come!

5.0 out of 5 stars sharp October 25, 2008

I've had this watch for two years now and it keeps perfect time.I use the rubber band that it came with, rarely.I bought an alligator band which makes it look like a dress watch, and I've gotten multiple compliments on it-even from a man on the commuter train.
I am a discerning watch collector and this watch does not disappoint.

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect May 2, 2008
By n.o.

I bought this watch as an everyday watch because it seemed durable. So far, so good. However, I still can't get used to the band. Even when I make the band loose, like a bracelet, I can still feel it on my wrist. It feels like it's tight, even though it's not. I think it's because of the way the band is made; it has grooves all around it and the grooves on the inside of the band make it uncomfortable for me. I can actually feel the pressure on my wrist. Also, I wish the date were bigger; it's a bit hard to see the number. Other than those things, I think this is a good watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this Diver Watch! March 27, 2008
This is the second identical watch I have purchased. The original band broke-band is not a common size and it was more economical to purchase a new watch than send it back to Citizen for a new band (try to figure that out!). The old watch is 3 years old---and still keeping purfect time, although there are a few scratches (my fault) on the face. Eco-Drive is wonderful-never have to touch it to keep correct time, except daylight saving time changes. We stay on a sailboat-and I wear the watch all the time. My five ***** rating is for the watch---not the band.Love this watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm an idiot September 6, 2009
Yes, I am an idiot, but I am the type of idiot who can admit a mistake.

This was the first dive watch I ever bought (a gift for the girlfriend, an avid diver) and I had never heard of a screw-down crown before. It's a watch, right? You pull the stupid thing out to set the time, you push the stupid thing back in when you're done. Turns out the stupid thing was the one doing the pushing and pulling.

The crown didn't come out when I pulled, so I used a tool. It didn't go back in when I pushed, so I used a tool. Naturally it never felt right after that. After a while the entire shaft connected to the crown pulled out. The watch still ran, but after a couple more dives water got in and the thing stopped working. So I posted a 2-star review here and sent the watch back to Citizen with an angry letter.

Eventually the girlfriend became the wife, and I became a diver too (a stipulation of the marriage). This year for Christmas she bought me a gorgeous dive watch. The crown didn't come out when I pulled, but this time I read the instructions. "Screw-down crown"? Oh *eff* me...

Did I mention that I am an idiot?

Despite the flagrant user error and being outside of the one-year warranty, Citizen repaired the watch, good as new, at no charge. I now know that Citizen is a company that you can trust for both quality and customer service.

The watch itself is perfect. Perfect size and perfect look. It's a style in and of itself. I bought my wife another Citizen, a gorgeous dress bracelet with a mother-of-pearl face. Few are the days when one or the other isn't on her wrist. Now I'm starting to lust after a Citizen chronograph for myself...

***Edited to give this watch the 5 stars it deserves.

The Citizen Story

The company was established in 1918. The founding fathers selected the name Citizen so it would be "Close to the Hearts of People Everywhere" and soon after adopted the company’s formal name, Citizen Watch Company.

During the last seventy-five years Citizen has expanded its business throughout the world and has achieved recognition as the global brand. The past twenty-five year period has coincided with the company’s dramatic rise to its current position as the world’s largest watchmaker, a distinction Citizen has held every year since 1986.

Beyond sheer size, Citizen is also recognized as a worldwide leader in advanced technology. From the world’s slimmest LCD watch to the first voice recognition watch and the world’s first professional dive watch with an electronic depth sensor, Citizen’s record of "world’s firsts" is unmatched.

More recently, Citizen has staked out a new position as the leader in timekeeping with its Eco-Drives watches that are light powered. With models ranging from dress models to sports models to professional dive watches, Citizen Eco-Drive runs continuously in any kind of natural or artificial light for a lifetime of use. Fueled by light, it never needs a battery.
