2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
After almost 20 years as a Citizen watch owner, my old faithful watch finally needed to be replaced. After some deliberation, I bought this one with the thought I'd probably not need to buy another everyday watch with 2nd hand for another 20 years. It looks nice on, not too heavy or bulky. I was disappointed to find after 2 weeks of ownership and paying a jeweler to...

I STILL love this watch. I wear it every single day. It keeps perfect time. The solar powered feature is amazing. I really like not having to worry about the battery dying. It's heavy enough that it's sturdy but not so heavy as to be annoying. I had to have a few links removed so keep that in mind when you order. Any watch dealer will be able to remove the links but I think most people will need to have that done to make it wearable. After 5 years of abuse, the face is still scratch free. The band shows some wear but considering that I have never been gentle on it, I'm impressed with how well it's held up. I am ordering a new Citizen watch today just to have some variety, but I'm sure this watch will still be my day to day watch. Order with confidence.

Update: 2 more years of daily use and it's still going strong. It keeps perfect time and is as solid as ever. Probably the best watch I have ever bought.

5.0 out of 5 stars sleek and silver Citizen Eco-Drive, November 25, 2009

A stunning, clean-lined watch. I've been wearing this watch for a couple weeks now, its so comfortable I forget I'm wearing it. Nice brushed steel band, a brighter silver ring around the face - and after exposing the face to light for awhile the hands glow green in the dark, then fade, which is a cool trick. It's not too bulky/big and not too dainty/small. Out of the box, the band was too long, be prepared to get it resized if you're anywhere near a regular wrist size.

The image here shows a darker blue-gray face - in reality it's simply gray, but that doesn't detract from it in any aesthetic way. That's actually why I picked this one, for the unique gray face. And if you are wondering about how you would ever replace the uniquely shaped band if it becomes worn looking from much use (like my last Fossil watch) - Citizen watches come with a five year limited warranty and all the Citizen Worldwide Service Centers are listed in the accompanying instruction booklet - emailing them or sending it in for a replacement band would probably be the only way to get the exact same Citizen band if it's possible.

And about the "fueled by light" feature - you don't have to wonder if your watch is getting enough light and will suddenly stop from lack of charge or something - I've been wearing mine for awhile and wearing it regularly makes that a non-issue. With a full charge its supposed to last six months in the dark. No batteries ever needed. All around a handsome, understated sleek and silver watch.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid, but not perfect, August 19, 2009
This review is from: Citizen Women's EW3030-50A Eco-Drive Corso Stainless Steel Watch (Watch)
I've had this watch for about 3 or so years. For reference, I'm a college student, which means I've been fairly rough on this watch. It stays on my wrist when I'm moving in and moving out. I've also been wearing this watch pretty much every day without fail.

After about 3 years of wear, it has some scratches and small chips in the watch face (rather annoying). I have no problem reading the time, but the scratches are most definitely there. The metal band has gotten really worn in a "I'm not really studying your watch, but can tell your watch has seen some better days" type of way. Point of this part of the review, is that the watch will see wear if you wear it. I haven't done anything to make it shinier or anything like taking it in to a jeweler's, but it's nothing that a simple visit wouldn't fix. Final note, this watch has seen its share of water (tap, pool, ocean), but no water damage whatsoever.

That being said, despite its fairly minor aesthetic flaws, it's been a reliable watch. Hasn't failed me on the time. Don't have to worry about batteries. Never an issue of "making sure my watch gets enough light." It will get light. Unless you live in a bat cave, eternally. I would go with an Eco Drive again. It's extremely effortless, which is why this watch gets 4 stars.

True, it's a little annoying that the calendar day is off on the non 31 day months, and the day sometimes gets off (switches over at noon instead of midnight) if you switch time zones and need to adjust the time. But all in all, these are really really minor details, and just come with having a watch that spells out the day of the week and the day of the month for you. (It's really nice having the day of the week and the day of the month on your wrist if you are as forgetful as I am.)

5.0 out of 5 stars High quality and stylish watch, December 9, 2009

My girlfriend wanted an elegant but practical watch that could be worn in formal as well as casual settings. This watch looks great and met that criteria perfectly. She also wanted a no-hassle watch she could rely on. This watch is a high quality Citizen Eco-Drive so it should be dependable and low maintenance.

The band does scratch pretty easily, which is too bad, but I suppose it's something to be expected of just about any watch with a metal band.

The day of the week takes a long time to completely roll over. The date is pretty quick, starts switching around 11:50 p.m. and finishes around 12:30 a.m. But the day of the week doesn't completely finish switching to the new day until about 4:00 a.m.!

Also, plan on having to adjust the date at the end of months that have more or less than 31 days in them. A pre-programmed perpetual calendar would be ideal but would surely cost more and would likely require the watch to be larger. And since I like its size as is and prefer to not pay much more for a watch, I won't complain about that.

My girlfriend really likes this watch and is very happy with it. It's a great every-day wearer that looks sharp worn with about anything (except a lot of gold, of course).

This is a high quality and stylish watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars 8 years and counting, June 2, 2010

I wear my watch 24/7. No kidding! My kids and husband think I'm crazy. But I love this watch and as far as I'm concerned, it's a part of me just like my wedding ring. It's been eight years since I purchased this watch and have had no problems whatsoever. It's such a timeless, classic style, and two different jewelers actually asked if it was a Rolex! When I bought it I thought, 'there's no way this watch is going to last longer than five years.' Well, it has! And I even swim in it! I bought my husband the men's version of this exact watch about five years ago and his is still going strong (and the man is really hard on things, especially jewelry). I'm thinking about buying this watch for my cousin since she got accepted to medical school and I'm very proud. She'll need a good watch and this is definitely a gift I'll feel confident about giving.

Bottom line: no complaints for either the men's or women's style, and I would buy both again in a heartbeat!

This is a nice watch. It is very smooth and flat and fits close to the wrist and is not heavy or bulky and thick. The face color is unassuming but not too dark and easily goes with every type of attire day or night, but it definitely is not a dressy watch. It is great and reliable for everyday,I have had it for a month. It is the same price as at the store.

4.0 out of 5 stars Terrific watch, but what if the band doesn't last a lifetime?, September 25, 2009
This review is from: Citizen Women's EW3030-50A Eco-Drive Corso Stainless Steel Watch (Watch)
I finally bought myself a "real" watch, rather than a throwaway. This is the one I decided on, and I am pleased with my choice, at least for now.

I really like the look of this watch--clean lines, no frills, pretty much unisex (or maybe 51% feminine). The brushed, sort of semi-matte finish on the face is very aesthetically appealing. The hands glow brightly in the dark for a while, then fade to dimmer but still visible. The day/date display is handy; I've quickly become reliant on it. The watch case is no thinner than that of a typical battery-powered watch, and it is thicker than some (like those razor-thin Skagens). But it's not bulky in look or feel.

Since I received the watch in mid-July, I've worn it essentially nonstop. It has kept perfect time and the face shows not a single scratch or sign of wear. I've developed some minor scuff marks on the watch band (visible if you look closely from a certain angle), but they're not noticeable. The clasp is secure and easy to fasten. The band is super-smooth; it has never snagged or caught on anything. The band is adjustable, but I can't attest to the ease or effectiveness of that, because I liked the way it fit me out of the box. I love that I'll never need to buy a battery for this watch and hope it continues to maintain time as it has so far.

My only concern is that as far as I can tell, there's no way to buy a replacement band. So if it gets too visibly scuffed or breaks, am I out of luck? The design in the band continues onto the case--that half-circle above and below the face is part of the case, not the band. So I'm not really sure how it would work if the band weren't an identical replacement, and an identical replacement does not seem to exist apart from the watch.

I haven't had it for any great deal of time, but I love it so far. I kind of abuse watches so I was a little hesitant about getting anything other than a typical sport watch, but I really wanted something that looked nice. This seems to be just perfect. It's not hideous or too sporty, but it seems to hold up great. It's pretty light weight (but not cheap or insubstantial feeling) and is easy to put on and remove. The whole thing looks and feels sturdy and there's nothing that seems cheap or low-quality about it (unlike a lot of other watched I was looking at in the same price range.) Both the face and band seem like they're probably at least fairly scratch resistant (no scratches so far) and I really like the brushed stainless steel look, personally.

I bought this watch in 2003 and wear it daily. The only thing I've had to had repaired is a broken crystal, but that was my fault. It has continued to keep perfect time and date for 8 years and I hope to have it for many more!

5.0 out of 5 stars 7 years and counting, July 21, 2011

I actually looked at the receipt and I bought it in May of 2004. I've worn this watch around the clock since then and I'm not careful with it at all. The band has a lot of scratches but they are not really visible at a casual glance, and the glass has some minor scratches. I only had the battery go low once during a particularly cold winter (lots of long sleeves) but half an hour under a lamp quickly took care of that.

The watch has been in a lot of water, including the ocean and it's still water proof and it is accurate as far as I can tell (accurate enough for my purposes, anyway). For my previous watch (Seiko) I had to shell out $25 every time my battery died (every year) as the cheaper battery places couldn't open it. So with this watch, I've saved a lot of money on batteries already and I expect I'll be able to keep it for many more years to come. If it ever dies, I'll definitely get another Eco Drive watch.
