Since its foundation in 1930, CITIZEN has promoted a multi-cultural mindset that fosters excellence and creativity. The very name of the brand conveys a deep respect toward craftsmanship and considered as familiar by citizens the world-over. So as a “citizen” of the world, we bear the responsibility to help cultivate a culture of positive change and on-going evolution through our craft. We take that mission seriously and steadfastly welcome what the future may bring.

As a true manufacture d’horlogerie, CITIZEN integrates a comprehensive manufacturing process from creating individual components to a watch’s final assembly. It’s an artisan’s approach to watch making based on pushing forward the boundaries of technology and leveraging our experience toward exploring new possibilities.

One pivotal technological breakthrough was the development of a light-driven watch. CITIZEN pioneered this engineering innovation well ahead of other watch manufacturers as early as 1976, which led to the launch of the highly acclaimed Eco-Drive in 1995. Utilizing electrical power converted from virtually any light source, this extraordinary innovation changed forever the way watches could be powered. Eco-Drive eliminated the need to ever replace batteries, which made it especially beneficial to areas where such specialist batteries were not obtainable. This leveled the field for citizens of virtually every country to be able to experience unrestricted joy of wearing and using a CITIZEN watch.

The product development policy, “The Fusion of Technology and Beauty,” remains a constant motivation for us to merge cutting-edge technology with perfection of design beauty, which as a consequence inspires people to strive to be their best at any time.

CITIZEN launches a new campaign in collaboration with Wieden+Kennedy, Better Starts Now. This is the simple belief that no matter who you are or what you do, it is always possible to make something better — and now is the time to start doing it. We believe that better and now are both infinite, and that there is always a next ‘better’ and a new ‘now’ in which you can start pursuing it. It was clear from the onset of this project that we are dedicated to this ideal…not to the past but to the present, and all the way we can improve it. To help communicate this belief to the world we have created a new global CITIZEN brand movie, brand identity and brand website that represents out Better Starts Now philosophy.

It's thin, and the band is small, which is exactly what I was looking for.

The black matte face is easy to read in bright sunlight and the diamond-bright silver markers and semi-luminous hands are easy to read in a theater or in semi-dark.

Overall, I love this watch and would highly recommend it to my dearest friend.

I'm extremely picky with my watches and bought this one after looking at many, many Citizen watches. I love the eco-drive so that you never have to replace the battery, but I have a TINY wrist, so I'm particular about the size and shape of my watches. I don't like square/rectangular watches or the big circle ones, so I needed something in between. I got this one in the mail yesterday and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT SO FAR. Took it to the Macy's nearby and had them take out 6 of the links, now it fits perfectly.

The watch face is very small, so that might not work for someone who has bigger hands. It's thin, and the band is small, which is exactly what I was looking for. Also, I wanted to stay away from the glow in the dark hands because I don't like the look, and I didn't even REALIZE this has a bit of glow in the dark on the hands because it's subtle.

Pros: Sleek and elegant, great for petite wrists, can be dressed up or down! Love the accents on the face, haven't had any trouble reading the time from any angle. Never have to replace a battery--big plus for me.

Cons: No date, no second hand--pretty typical of these watches which are designed more for the elegant look than for functionality. Doesn't have the higher levels of water resistance, but I'm not planning to go swimming with this watch, so that's fine for me.

lastly, Amazon has a great price on this, too!

The band is a little wider than I wanted but thin bands are just not the trend in everyday watches right now. So I'm pretty happy with this one. Haven't had it but three weeks and so far it keeps flawless time, and haven't had to recharge it under lights. Love the idea of no battery. The black matte face is easy to read in bright sunlight and the diamond-bright silver markers and semi-luminous hands are easy to read in a theater or in semi-dark. Had the band quickly re-sized by a local jeweler for a nominal fee. I recommend it for a woman with a small to medium wrist.

I got this watch about a week ago after a loooong search, and I am extremely satisfied. Really high contrast, easy to read, and has a bit of glow in the dark on the hands to aid in ease of reading -- but not enough to be ugly. Beautiful and sleek, yet functional, if not utilitarian. The dial is an elegant graph-like design that does not distract from, but indeed adds to the ease of, reading the time.
The band has two finishes, matte in the center, while the "I-shape" piece that comprise the outer edge of the band and run through the center are polished (shiny). Enough to attract the eye, but I do not feel as though I am wearing a diamond tennis bracelet, and there is no glare from the frame or bracelet to distract in reading the time.
The clasp is great, I never fumble to put it on or take it off.
I only have two ideas that would make this a more perfect watch - it could have the date (which may cause an increase in depth, defeating it's current characteristic; it's nice and shallow, wearable while typing) and it could meet the first real level of Citizen's water-resistance, as opposed to the basic "it's fine if you don't 'submerge' it" (where by 'submerge' we mean getting all of it wet!) level of WR, where I don't feel comfortable washing a single coffee mug!
Overall, I love this watch and would highly recommend it to my dearest friend.

I bought my Citizen EW9700-56E Eco-Drive about a year ago. Being my first solar powered watch, I wasn't sure what to expect, but it is a very sharp looking watch so I bought it anyway. I could not be more pleased! It's accurate, water resistant, easy for these aging eyes to see, beautifully stylish, the clasp does not come open on its own, but works easily with my help. Another plus is that is doesn't slide around my wrist, the face is always UP so I don't have to twist my arm around to see what time it is, and it glows in the dark! It's the ultimate care-free watch. Love it!

I have this watch already 2 years and like them a lot. They look very nice, do not need battery(solar), very precise. What else do you need?
