5.0 out of 5 stars Citra-Solv (d-Limonene) an excellent green cleaning product
Citra-solv is a cleaning product consisting of nearly 100% d-Limonene, derived from orange peels. It is excellent for cleaning oil or grease, and is superior for adhesives (like from Scotch- or duct tape). It is non-toxic, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly.

Alternatives are available, but are all inferior, either because they are diluted with water...

2.0 out of 5 stars Way, way diluted -- not resemble photo
Take the citra-solv in the photo (the orange citra-solv we fell in love with), fill a bottle one-third with it, then add 2/3 water and voila -- the current citra-solve. WAY WAY more diluted. Not even orange as in the photo but a pale yellow. Shame on you, Citra-solve.

Alternatives are available, but are all inferior, either because they are diluted with water or contain pertroleum distillates. Get the real-deal item, or suffer inferior results.

A mixture of Citra-solv and water makes a very good cleaning material for all-around use. We put it in a spray bottle and use it freely around the house. Full strength, it can be used to clean a bicycle drive train or a car engine. (Gunk ain't in it.)

Citra-solv contains a small amount of emulsifier in the form of cocoanut oil. Because entirely derived from plant food products, it is the most benign cleaner you can find. The residue is not harmful to your septic system, and can even be composted. (Note that d-limonene is rather irritating to the eyes and to mucous membranes, so be careful.)

Combined with butane and diluted with lots of water, it makes a highly effective insecticide spray. The advantage here is that these materials are all non-toxic. (In handling butane, a volatile and flammable liquid, you risk fire or explosion, so exercise care.)

I cannot say enough good things about Citra-solv. We now buy it by the gallon. My only question: why have we not been using this sort of thing time out of mind? The orange peels have always been there, haven't they?

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing better on the planet, December 25, 2007
This review is from: Citra-Solv Natural Household Cleaner
If you want a cleaner that can do it all...Citra-Solv is it! We were first introduced to this product when my husband worked for a company that actually bottled this product. Back then we got it for free. We were given an equivalent of about 3 gallons worth in 2003. Now in almost 2008 we have about a pint left of that 3 gallons. Thats almost 5 years that those three gallons has lasted us and we use it for everything! We have some of the hardest water on the planet and this stuff removes hard water build-up like it were butter and no elbow grease is necessary. Minimal effort and it wipes away! If you've got a stain or glob of goo on something and have thought to yourself, "that will never come off," put a little Citra-Solv on it and it will be gone. Please note my husband no longer works for the bottling company so this is not a bias plug for the product. We now have to buy it like everyone else...and its worth every penny!

5.0 out of 5 stars smells good, removes the impossible, economical, July 7, 2010
This review is from: Citra-Solv Natural Household Cleaner
I first bought Citra Solv because it was cheap (concentrate makes gallons) and I like the smell of oranges. Then I used it to get silly putty out of my son's new shirt--came out in seconds and left fabric in perfect shape. I use Citra Solv for most cleaning jobs in my house including kitchen, bathroom, mopping, laundry stains, odors and hard water deposits. Even the concentrated solution doesn't bother my sensitive skin. Now I can put my kids to work since Citra Solv is safe and nontoxic. And on top of all that, it doesn't harm the environment. Who knew orange could be green?
