Excellent Read. Must Have for any Citrix Admin,

This review is from: Citrix MetaFrame XP: Advanced Technical Design Guide (Advanced Technical Design Guide series) (Paperback)
I recieved this book at IForum and when I saw it I was like WHOA! I didn't think I'd find it interesting at all. But as I started reading I was impressed at the amount of usefull information was in the book. This book covers everything you need to know about MetaFrame XP, and how to setup your enviroment. I'm new to the MetaFrame product but with the knowledge I've picked up from this book I can go back to senior management and make recommendations on how to implement a succesfull MetaFrame farm. This is the first technical book I read without skipping chapters. Every chapter is a must read. Job well done Brian.Mario Londoño

I bought this book to help for a specific problem we were having with NFuse. I only began reading the other chapters after that problem was fixed. One thing that was interesting about this book is that it is full of bulleted lists of advantages and disadvantages for practically all aspects of MetaFrame XP. That made it really easy to decide which options we wanted to use, and why. I also thought that it was interesting that this book didn't waste too much time getting to the point.. It's like each page had tons of information. Honestly, I bought the book because it was the only (non CCA study guide) MetaFrame XP book available, but I think it's excellent and I would highly recommend it to others.

After 5 minutes with this book I decided to pay what ever price they wanted for the book. I am a citrix instructor in connecticut and this book is the number one recommendation for all my citrix students. Don't leave home without it.

I picked up this book for free (and got it autographed by Brian) at iForum last week. I must say that it is sweet. I stayed up almost all night and read half the book. The book is VERY thorough (almost too much info in some places although maybe that will be good when we do the implementation). It is really useful for me, since we're doing a MetaFrame 1.8 to XP upgrade right now. This book covers the complete design steps for the new system. One note of caution: This book DOES NOT replace the instruction manual. (I read the manual on the way down and the book on the way back.) I think that was a good combination--the manual explains how things are supposed to work and this book explains how things really work. My only complaint is that this book is very thick--800 pages. Good for content, bad for my briefcase!

The best stuff about Citrix out there,
By Diego (Spain) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Citrix MetaFrame XP: Advanced Technical Design Guide (Advanced Technical Design Guide series) (Paperback)
In my opinion, this book is the ONLY interesting published book about Citrix until now. I have read most of the available books about Citrix and Terminal Services and this is the only one I would buy again. If you are a Citrix Certified Administrator, you will find this book very helpful. Personally speaking, I prefer it to most of the Citrix official documentation. Take into account that it is a book for people who already has a deep knowledge about Citrix. It is not a guide for begginers. It gives you hints to improve your own Citrix project methodology. Amazon guys, let me suggest this, please: If you are looking for a step-by-step begginers guide, have a look at Methodology in a Box (freely available at http://www.dabcc.com)

A New Kind of Technical Guide,
By A Customer
This review is from: Citrix MetaFrame XP: Advanced Technical Design Guide (Paperback)
On top of the incredibly thorough technical content, this book has one thing that most other technical guides do not - personality. The writing style isn't the normal, monotonous style that is found in so many tech books, it is conversational and sometimes even entertaining. The technical merits of the book speak for themselves - Real world experiences plus the theory behind them. This isn't just a reiteration of the Metaframe XP Admin Guide, it SHOULD BE the Metaframe XP Admin Guide.

A must for any Citrix Admin, period. This book is awesome. Should go for [more]! I was a little disappointed with the index however as I couldnt easily find a few things I was searching for. Also an electronic copy of the book would have been a nice added feature. Overall though a great technical guide that has been very helpful to me as a Citrix Admin of 4 years.

Simply the best,
By A Customer
This review is from: Citrix MetaFrame XP: Advanced Technical Design Guide (Paperback)
This book is as far as I know the best book you can find on the market. It goes even deeper into the subject than the excellent book of Todd W. Mathers. No stories about once upon a time or other philosophical chitchat, but immeduately straight to the point. I'm now more than 20 years busy in IT and this is the first time a book is worth all his pages. The only thing I can say about it: If you want to know Metaframe XP seriously, then get this book!

After reading reviews of the different Citrix books out there, I decided to buy this book. I read the book cover to cover, and was able to understand the new MetaFrame XP. I had worked with MetaFrame 1.0 and 1.8, but wanted to get current with XP. This book explains everything iun a very conversational tone, sometimes even humorous. After reading this book and studying some additional technical documents from Citrix, I was able to pass the CCA exam. I'll be continuing on to the Citrix CCEA. If you are working with Citrix, you NEED this book! Trust me on this! M. Unger, MCSE, MCP+I, CCA |
