A Very Interesting Reference Book,

This review is from: Citroen Traction Avant (Hardcover)
Although rarely seen on American roads, the Citroen "Traction Avant" of the years 1934 to 1957 is one of the most fascinating cars ever built. It is truly a milestone automobile, combining (in it's day) unheard of features such as front wheel drive, rack and pinion steering, torsion bar suspension and all steel unitized body construction. Jon Pressnell's book gives a very good overview of the vehicle models produced, the history behind their development, and the "Traction's" role in French culture. This book is well illustrated with period b&w and modern color photos. A worthwhile book for vintage car enthusiasts and francophiles.

This well-written and well-illustrated book will be of value to anyone who is interested in automobile technology and style, the history of an important auto firm, or who is simply a francophile. The TA, which originated in the 1930s and was produced into the 1950s, was an amazing vehicle that combined numerous technologies that only in later years became widespread practice on autos of all types and prices. This book may not be for everyone, but if you fit into one of the categories mentioned above, you will find it entertaining and rewarding.

Extremely informative and interesting to see included are extras available at the time that were not Citroen manufacture ie: the AEAT boot.
The book would be totally inclusive if it had detailed specifications to a greater extent. My impressions overall, pleasant to read with superb photography. |
