5.0 out of 5 stars Another great CD Shirley Caesar
I would love to interview this great woman of God and find out what made her choose certain song over others. This CD is magnificent, all the songs. You have your classic Shirley Caesar and the dynamic newness of Shirley Caesar. People go and get this CD and be more blest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pastor Caesar has outdone herself!!!!!!!!!!!!, December 27, 2010
This review is from: A City Called Heaven (Audio CD)
Pastor Caesar has outdone herself. This cd was such a blessing. She took us down memory lane with "Celebration"; which talks about the joy that we will have when we get to heaven. Next standout song "FAVOR"; this has hit written all over it. The song "Nobody" with JMOSS is also a major hit. A nice worship ballad is "There is agreat feeling in this place". "Cornerstone" is a great song that will leaved traditional gospel singer longing for more and so will "Cant even walk without you holding my hand". My favorite song is "A city called heaven". A major plus. This cd proves that Pastor Caesar is still a froce to be reckon with in Gospel music

If you are looking for the traditional sound of Shirley Caesar, this one is not it. You will be deeply disappointed. I would suggest you preview a copy from your local library first before you waste your money. I was deeply disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pastor Caesar's Exciting Project, December 18, 2009
By

This review is from: A City Called Heaven (Audio CD)
"A City Called Heaven" is a dynamic offering from Pastor Shirley Caesar. Two years ago, she released "After 40 Years: Still Sweeping Through The City", which was a delightful update to her classic songs. But she realizes that in 2010, gospel is still moving in a more modern direction.

The CD opens with a really funky jam called "Celebration". The bass line, percussion, and overall melody reminds you of an old Earth, Wind and Fire song, that might tempt you to do the Electric Slide or start a Soul Train line. But Pastor Caesar goes into her element during the vamp, quoting popular lines from her old sermons: "It's not how many times you GO IN THE HOSPITAL, it's how many times YOU COME OUT", and "the Lord came into our rooms, whispered in our ears and said WAKE UP to see the dawning of a brand new day". It's like hearing a preacher's chant (hoop) while gettin' your dance on.

There are some other good ones like "Get Light For the Flight" and her cover of David Frazier's "Favor". Surprisingly, her most traditional selection, "Can't Even Walk"- popularized by the Gaithers, is the the most disappointing one. When I saw the track list, I thought she was gonna "go in" but I found myself "leaving out" because the vamp drags.

Her main single, "Nobody" with J. Moss is another one that was just too secular to be considered a gospel song, but still buy the CD.

It's Pastor Shirley Caesar. Even when the songs aren't that good, she still brings an unparalleled energy to them.
