Best children's book since The Giving Tree...,
By Gwen the bookworm (CT and FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: City Dog, Country Frog (Hardcover)
This is supposedly a childen's book, but works on both kid and adult levels. So beautifully illustrated by Jon Muth. The plot, in a nutshell: City dog visits country. When dog sees frog, he asks Frog what he's doing. "Waiting for a friend. But I guess you'll do." When frog can't play as years pass, he invents the "Remembering game." The following year, dog visits; no frog. But another critter watches Dog and asks what he's doing. Dog (sniff!)says, "Waiting for a friend. But I guess you'll do..." A wonderful message for kids of any age--of friendship, aging, loss and loving again. |
