There are so many reasons City High is the best... They're the next Fugees- after all, Wyclef Jean is one of they're executive producers! They're Cd, though, shows that they're talented too! 1. Didn't Ya- I really like this song. Claudette sounds like Janet Jackson in it. 2. Three Way- This song is kewl too! It has great rhythm and beat, and the vocals are fab! 3. Why- kewl beginning to the song! Its kinda slow, but I luv this song to. The chorus is absolutely beautiful. 4. Song For You- I luv how they say "Let's Reminisce, Ya'll" in the background (and the background music too). Yet again, you hear Ryans beautiful voice! 5. 15 Will Get You 20- You hear more of Claudette in this song. Actually, you hear the whole group! They make a great trio! 6. Cats and Dogs- Claudette raps!! And so do the boys! That is so cool!! The Chorus is really good too. I love this song! 7. Caramel- This is my friends personal favorite. I like it too, but not as much as her. Claudette sings in this too! The chorus yet again is catchy and cool. 8. Best Friends- this is one of my personal favorites. The song is very touching, kinda sad, but totally beautiful! 9. Sista- Great beat! Great Lyrics! Great vocals! 'nuff said!! 10. What Would You Do- Im guessing if you are reading this you've already heard the song. It was their first hit single! Great song though, I heard it once and went out and bought the single. 11. So Many Things- great song to slow dance to. 12. The Only One I Trust- I don't hate this song, but its not one of my fave. Its pretty good though. 13. City High Anthem- Not at all like the Ruff Ryders Anthem, but its still great! 14. You Dont Know Me- Good message in this song, I think we all can relate. All in all, this cd is the best!! Its seriously for everyone! So help this new band out- buy their cd!! And trust me, you will not be disappointed!

City High is the first group to debut off J records after olivia made the way. Is this new group worth checking out?? Just from the first single alone I knew this would be worth listening to. I knew it was different just from the chorus "what would you do if your son was at home lying all alone on the bathroom floor and he's hungry, and the way to feed him is to sleep with a man fo ra little bit of money". Sounnded liek something one of thier friends went through. This cd is probably one of the best R+B/Hip cds to drop form a group in a while. The first thing you see with city high is they have the same formula their mentor "wyclef" had in his former group Fugees with 2 guys and a girl. This formula never goes wrong except this time around everyone comes strong and doesnt let the talents of one overshadow everyone else. First I'll let everyone know that all these joints were produced and written completly by all members of the group. I give 2 stars just for that alone. Now for the tracks, ...whats good?
(1/5(worst) - 5/5(best))
1-This is about a cheating lover. The beat is tight...one of my favorite on the cd. Claudette reminds me of beyonce at certain times but has a style all her own...really makes this track. (4/5)
2- This is about being in a love triangle(not what u was thinking..LOl). This is a funky track that plays like a story. they all sound good on this track. (3/5)
3-This is a slow to midtempo song with a tight beat about a love gone wrong. (4/5)
4- This is a latin/hip-hop track where robby lets u see how much he can blow. This song is dedicated to someone he loved or liekd a lot(I think). Tight track. (3.5/5)
5- This song is one of the deepest on the album. It talks about how a 15 year old can get you 20 years in jail.(making the name 15 will get you 20) This hapend to one of their freinds. midtempo beat. (4/5)
6- This one city high lets you see how they can rip the mike. Claudette and Ryan rip the mike and let you see how they flow. This talks about men that are dogs but gives a story behind why some ar ethat way(ie. broken heart....cold feelings) (4.5/5)
7- Nice track about a girl with caramel skin. Robby shows how he can blow on this one again and talks about what he wants in someone. (3/5)
8- This is another deep track. About a friend trying to get a couple back togetehr. even though one is better saying.."pay back is a B^&(h" Shows you teh flip side of things (4/5)
9- This one is just the guys singing. Mid-tempo soul beat about a freind telling his boy he been with his sister and got her pregnant behind his back. Anotehr deep one. (4/5)
10- We all know this track but this is anotehr one that puts you on the spot with the question..."what would you do?" (4/5)
11-A laid back , smooth track about someone leaving. (4/5)
12-Anotehr track with a laid back latin beat with claudette ripping it with the vocals giving you a ghetto fairytale about 2 lovers caught up. Something like teh movie "carmen" form mtv. (4/5)
13- Uplifting track about coming form the hood and making something better of theirselves contrary to what critics and otehr people said or may say. (4/5)
14- This is another funky track saying .."you dont knwo me so dont judge me....I let experience guide me as me teacher...and leave the rest up to him(god)". (4/5)
Overall you couldnt ask for anything better from a new group that had a lot going against them in competetion. Every song played out like a story. They each had at least one song where you got to really hear one member of group and know that none arein it for the image. They talked about so many things that I havent heard in hip-hop/R+b and the things that were similar to what was said already had a new twist to it. I like the fact that wyclef let them do their thing and didnt appear on every track unlike some other producers. Dont sleep on this new one....get it!

I bought this cd for the song "What Would You Do", of course. Turns out it's one of the few cds that I love every song(the only other cds=Janet Jackson and TLC). One of my favourites in my collection. Nice r'n'b with a hip-hop touch. Some of the songs are thought-provoking, not preachy, like "What Would U Do" and "City HIgh Anthem". City High Anthem actually is my favourite track, seems to me like Rhythm Nation1814(my favourite cd) summed up: "What happened to all those Issac Hayes/the Curtis Mayfields/the Marvin Gayes", "We Don't Need Your Education/We Don't Want NO Past Advice/We Are The Leaders Of Your Nation/We're gonna maek sure the world survives/there's no justice, there's just us/what happened to the meaning in God we trust?/so as we grow older and our children grow up/ we ain't gonna teach them what y'all showed us". The cd's real life, not that sugar-coated, sappy, sweet-but-not-so-innocent Britney Spears. My favourite tracks, even though I love all of them, are Didn't Ya, Three Way, Why, 15 Will Get You 20, Cats And Dogs, Caramel, Sista, What Would Ya Do, City High Anthem, and YOu don't know Me. Basically all the songs. Caramel sounds good for the next single, and it shows more Claudette. For any TLC or Sisqo fan.

I picked this album up, and what can I say? After hearing "What Would You Do?", I just knew there was something special about City High. The album is full of hot tracks that are just so off the hook. Unfortunately, my CD has two songs that were cut from the final album, but here's my tracklisting review... Didn't Ya - Smooth RnB track. It has a cool break towards the end. Three Way - Another hot RnB type track. Very Usher/Craig David, so its a potential hit. Do The Right Thing - I don't have a clue why this was cut... it features the Product G&B and has a Jerry Springer story - its hilarious. Song For You - Robby sounds so heavy on this track. Its perfect for his voice, and he seems to be singing it with alot of heart. 15 Will Get You 20 - Funky beat, fantastic words. How many of you can relate to this, huh? Cats & Dogs - HEAVY! Quite a dark track, but still off the hook. Caramel - Possible second single. Very nice. My younger sister likes it, so... Best Friends - One of my favourites, just because of the idea. They all sound nice too. Sista - Its a grower. Similar style to Three Way. What Would You Do? - This one is... you know this one! So Many Things - Hmm... very 112. Its alright, but a bit typical RnB. The Only One I Trust - The BEST cut from the album! This is soooooo off the hook. I can't explain. Everything about it. Nothing Stays The Same - Fantastic lyrics. Why did they cut this too?!?! City High Anthem - Possible second single too. Its a nice track to end. Kind of like a goodbye. Overall, City High is a fantastic album. Pick it up now. Trust me.

I bought this disc as soon as it dropped in 2001, listened to it in entirety once then shelved it. I actually had it in my "sell" pile but decided to listen to it again. I don't know what was wrong with my ears back then but this is a very good debut cd from a group that we'll probably never hear from again. R&B and hip hop music in general have become a joke in that listeners are forced to listen to the same "christened few" while really talented people struggle to keep their music dream alive, put out quality music and satisfy music lovers. Unfortunately those that go outside the formulaic box are rarely heard from again after stellar debuts.

Claudette, Robby & Ryan each bring something different to the table, all can sing and rap adequately, more than a few of the songs stand out and the subject matter on their album is relevant to all.

That being said, needless to say after giving this disc a second listen, it's no longer in danger of being sold because I truly enjoy more than a few songs - Didn't Ya, Caramel, Best Friends, Sista, The Only One I Trust, So Many Things and the excellent Donny Hathaway remake, A Song for You.

I'm glad I wasn't so quick to give this cd away and gave it a second listen. If you are into r&b/hip hop and don't just write groups or artists off after one listen, you may be pleasantly surprised at how good this cd is.

Yes, this is a great cd. But I couldn't give it a full 5 stars for a 2 reasons: A few songs sound similer in beat and rythym, but have great thought provoking lyrics. The 2nd is that some songs aren't easy to memorize and aren't the kind that you hum or get stuck in your head. It's pretty 50/50.
My favorite songs are Caramel (catchy lyrics, shows lots of Claudette's beautiful voice) What Would you do, The City High Anthem ( one of my favvvv great song) 15 will get you 20, and lots others.
Now, of course the vocals are excellent, Robby, Toby, and Claudette's voice sound perfect for each other, they sing with true emotion, but the real thing that stood out to me was that the producing and mixing was so complex. Vocals apon Vocal and other sounds are layered so perfectly its amazing. Wyclef did an amazing job. This cd is probably not for kids 12 or under, it deals with some inappropriate issues for younger kids. But, All in all, This Album by City High is great, it tells it like it is, it doesn't sugar coat it like so many "Popstars" today. This is a unique album that is a breath of fresh air in the stifling world of pop culture.

City High, the self-titled debut album by, obviously, the amazing trio City High, is the best CD of all time. It is, honestly, the best CD I have ever heard. Mostly R&B with an edge, City High also drops some hot rap and hip-hop joints on the album. Let's explore... The first track is Didn't Ya and the chorus is hot, good beat. The 2nd one is Three Way.. about a guy ccheating on his girl and her best friend sees him with another chick. Why? is the third track and is real hot. It's about a couple who fight all the time but still have sex and are wondering why. Song for you is a remake of the Donny Hathaway classic, who the trio strongly admires. 15 Will Get You 20 has a catchy chrous. It is about statutory rape. Cat and Dogs is an awesome song and you hear Claudette and the Boys Rape. It's real hot. Caramel is a good song with a real good chorus, and you hear a lot more of Claudette in this one. It's one of my favorites. Best Friends is one of the best on the album, but very depressing. It's sooo good though. No Claudette in this one, though. Sista is my FAVORITE song on the album. It's about this guy who's dating his best friend's little sister. She is pregnant by him and they are planning to get married. No Claudette in this one, either, though. But I think it's awesome. What Would You Do.. well, I don't really need to say anything about this song. Chances are, you've heard it by now. It's awesome and sends a good message to EVERYONE. So Many Things is a really good slow jam. I like it a lot. Very depressing, though. The Only One I Trust is really good, and you hear a lot of Claudette in this one, too. It's about a girl who is dating a drug dealer and doesn't know what to do when confronted by the police. City High Anthem is awesome and tells the reason for the trio's moniker. The three went to the same City High School. You Don't Know Me is real catchy and tells a great message that probably anyone can relate to. All of the songs on this album are awesome and have awesome lyrics. The trio isn't just another group. They ALL have great voices and all of their songs tell a story, which is why City High is sometimes known as a Motion Picture Group. CITY HIGH IS THE BEST!!

City High deserves credit for putting out such a good album. I didn't think I was going to enjoy this as much as I did. But my problem with this album is that all the tracks containing profanity are edited making this a clean version album. Now, don't get me wrong it's not that I enjoy profanity, but as a consumer it's my choice to decide between explicit or not. I understand this is suppose to be a positive and uplifting CD. But the songs were still written containing profanity. I just hate being pulled away from a song even if it's for a second or two because of a line being muddled and in the process losing its harmony. If I want clean I'll turn on the radio.
