4.0 out of 5 stars Comic Book Hero Comes to Life (3 1/2 stars)
This is a bright, colorful comic book brought to life. As with most Chan movies, it alternately has you cringing, laughing and saying "WOW"! The plot is, of course, silly, but the action scenes, as usual, make up for it. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not the Norm
This movie was a great comedy first and an action movie second. This film emphasizes more or less the Simpson's brand of playful humor but mixes with the eastern slapstick. This is the first eastern dubbed kung fu movie to make me roll around laughing.

This is a bright, colorful comic book brought to life. As with most Chan movies, it alternately has you cringing, laughing and saying "WOW"! The plot is, of course, silly, but the action scenes, as usual, make up for it. My two favorite fights were: one in an empty movie theater against two REALLY TALL bad guys while a Bruce Lee film plays on the screen, and the final battle-royale against Richard Norton (my favorite Chan villain-also in Mr. Nice Guy) where Jackie's slap-stick Kung-Fu is just hilarious. I liked this as much as the Operation Condor movies (Jackie dresses better in this one). And for once, the bad dubbing is actually an asset--it adds to the film's Saturday morning cartoon feel.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great fun film from a great fun guy!, October 26, 2000

Although this movie may not be to everyones liking, make no mistake it is still Jackie Chan at his best! Good animated comedy, clean fun, excellent fight scenes. The one especially at the end I thought would never end and is well worth waiting for. It certainly is reminiscent of the silent movies, almost bordering on Douglas Fairbanks swashbuckling routines, including good old slapstick humour. The female characters are good and strong but at the same time feminine and I would gladly swap places with any of them, especially when Jackie flips them up in the air during a mock dance sequence. This is good Saturday morning viewing, curled up with a bag of popcorn and one which any fan would not be disappointed to add to their collection!

This movie was a great comedy first and an action movie second. This film emphasizes more or less the Simpson's brand of playful humor but mixes with the eastern slapstick. This is the first eastern dubbed kung fu movie to make me roll around laughing.

Although Jackie doesn't do his normal life threatening stunts in this movie, he fights enough to keep the action pumping to the end. This movie stars my favorite TV martial artist Gary Daniels (Fist of the North Star/Bloodmoon etc) who shows off his muscles, his flexibility and finally a great sense of humor.

The StreetFighter II scene is a favorite of viewers in which Jackie Chan (who plays City Hunter) is thrown through an arcade and turns into E. Honda And Chun Li plus his friends turn into Dalsym and Guile. Of course the bad guy turns into ken and smashes the lot of them.

My only complaints about this movie are the sound effects, which always seem a moment late or too loud for a small hit, which is common for oversea movies and annoying like crazy to the West. This is a fun movie, more comedy than action more good than bad.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, March 13, 2000

I felt a bit embarrassed watching this. It's pretty lowgrade stuff, with only one decent fight and loads of stupid jokes. Not real Jackie Chan at all. Liked the Street Fighter bit though.

1.0 out of 5 stars City Hunter... a piece of my dump..., January 22, 2000
This review is from: City Hunter [VHS] (VHS Tape)
It's interesting to see film makers decide to make an Anime but in live action. Starring Jackie Chan with wo things on his mind... Food And Women... this terrible movie decides to try to be funny in the style that only a cartoon can show. There's no fighting until the end and even then it's all stupid. Jackie Chan gets zapped by the game Street Fighter 2 and somehow turns in to the charcters for one scene. The dubbed voices are terrible and I decided not to watch it after a certain point so I don't even know how it ends. I am a fan pf Jackie Chan but even favorites make mistakes... big ones.

4.0 out of 5 stars City Hunter (1993), November 12, 2002

This film is silly! Jackie is a womanizing private eye, hired by a wealthy tycoon to locate his runaway daughter. Jackie tracks her to a cruise ship and Jackie ends up on board as well (including his female assistant). Before Jackie can grab the girl the ship gets hijacked and Jackie's distracted by having to save the passengers, not to mention finding time to flirt with an undercover operative and her partner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jackie's a cartoon come to life!, December 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: City Hunter [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Jackie comes to life as Ryu Saeba in this goofy(a few of his classics are) and action packed movie. He's a full time detective and a full time womanizer(don't get much cooler than that!). His latest assignment is to bring back a millionaires runaway daughter(sounds simple enough but remember this is a Jackie Chan Movie). He fallows her onto a cruiseship but before he can get to her another supprise comes up. CHECK IT OUT!

3.0 out of 5 stars goofy, but okay., September 8, 1999

When I saw this movie I thought it was pretty cheesy, but I did like the way it was a parody to Japanimation films. Not as many fight scenes and stunts as your conventional Jackie Chan movie, but what it does have is alright.

4.0 out of 5 stars A live action anime!, August 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: City Hunter [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This movie uses many anime conventions, like giant mallets, character flashbacks and other little things any anime fan can pick up by watching. Some good fight scenes, some inane dialogue and some very beautiful ladies (watch for the voluptuous comic relief girl WOW!!) make for a fun movie!

By A Customer
This review is from: City Hunter [VHS] (VHS Tape)
At first I thout it was kind of a childish movie. But towards the end with the Street fighters I laugh so hard because it was just like street fighters. So even know I gave it three stars still go get it it's good.
