Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

YA-- A thorough, well-illustrated look at how a film is made. Opening with chapters by the producer, director, and screenwriter, Joffe then presents an excerpted script, quotes from the original book, and countless full-color photographs from both production and actual stills. Sidebars make it possible to understand the film and Indian culture. This unique resource can serve as both an eyeopening and entertaining resource on filmmaking and as an unusual introduction to a non-Western culture.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Movie, May 1, 2011

This review is from: City of Joy: The Illustrated Story of the Film (Newmarket Pictorial Moviebook) (Paperback)
Patrick Swayze gave one of his best performances in this movie. His protrayal of Dr. Max Lowe as a man who has shut himself off from people goes to India to try to find himself. He ends up getting involved with a slum clinic and the person who runs it. He also gets involved with a family who lives there. It's very touching and you find yourself rooting for the people. You almost feel like you are a part of this slum community and want for them to have a better life. It is one of my all time favorite movies, you can watch this one over and over.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book for an even better movie, April 27, 2008
This review is from: City of Joy: The Illustrated Story of the Film (Newmarket Pictorial Moviebook) (Paperback)
This is a very beautiful illustrative book. It has wonderful pictures and interesting information. The only reason I don't give it a five star due its price. The book is old and it shouldn't cost more than $10.
