5.0 out of 5 stars A Haunt, a Few Tears and A New Obsession of Mine, April 20, 2000

This review is from: City of Lost Children (Audio CD)
Angelo Badalamenti has a history of creating appropriate compositions to score film. From the sinister backwaters of 'Twin Peaks', to the jazzy lounge-world of 'Blue Velvet' (a friend of David Lynch, it seems) Badalamenti has taken the worlds of his assigned films to their ultimate levels by creating the music to complete them. In 'City of Lost Children', Badalamenti's composition stirs the emotions as they draw away from the comedic stresses in the film and envelopes the desolate, melancholy of the world in which the characters dwell. Hints of the darkly creepy off-humorous trademarks of filmmakers Jeunet & Caro, such as the menacing circus-like melodies in the track 'Generique', add to the darkness of this composition by contrasting the hauntingly beautiful themes of 'Miette', and 'Theme- La Cite des Enfants Perdus'. Additional tracks, including a vocal piece by Marianne Faithful, 'Who Will Take My Dreams Away?' contribute to the darkness of this work, stirring the emotions even further toward the sensation of being a part of the world portrayed in the film. A true masterpiece to bring out the more lugubrious parts of our emotions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Oceans of Sorrow...., March 3, 2000
This review is from: City of Lost Children (Audio CD)
First...why is this not listed under Angelo Badalamenti? He composed the whole score and when I searched his name this disk didn't come up... This CD is HEAVY(no, not metal dude). From the opening (odd dark carnival like)till the end this is a deep emotional disk. Very depressing...don't listen too when already down ,because it will drag you lower.Still, it is oddly enchanting and I recommend to anyone who is a fan of Badalamenti's other work(Twin Peaks is a fine example also).Great music...just be careful with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars at least in ange's top 3, July 20, 2004
This review is from: City of Lost Children (Audio CD)
if you're just getting into badalamenti ,howard shore,or any other atmospheric movie score composers, this is a great one to build a collection around.I've even had some of my buddies who are fairly strick pop/punk devouts and "trend-meisters" say that this cd was trippy!also,if you like the opening song w/ marianne faithfull you'll want to get her cd "a secret life".(ange did all the music on that one for her.)I own pretty much all of the badalamenti scores and i'd say my favorites are;1 mulholland drive,2 the straight story, 3 city of lost children, 4 fire walk with me,5 blue velvet, 6 the comfort of strangers in that order.nightmare on elm street and twins scores are trippy in a rediculous sort of way.the city of lost children is a definate "safe bet"though,as far as I'm concerned!
