5.0 out of 5 stars "city nights" a true classic
well.. i must say it's about time this albium was released on cd. i remember when the mega smash hit "hot child in the city" was released in 1978 and what a impact it had on me at that time. and the rest of the album is just as great. there are several songs that could have been released as singles "got to get out" "she's one of the boys"...

2.0 out of 5 stars BIG mastering flaw...listen up!
BEWARE...Listen closely Gilder fans...
What would be considered 'side 2' from the original vinyl:
-FRUSTRATION
-HERE COMES THE NIGHT
-21st CENTURY
-FLY HIGH
-ROCKAWAY
... on this import CD re-issue these 5 songs are all in a key one step 'down' from the original release.

EXAMPLE- 'Here Comes the Night' is in the key...

Can someone explain why? My guess is the problem was in the mastering process??
Tracks 1 thru 5 are in the correct keys..

the EMI 'CITYNIGHTS/FREQUENCY' 2 FOR 1 is spot-on..and a bit more affordable! :)

hope this helps...

City Nights is one of those albums that kept me hanging on to my turntable; why would they ever re-release it? But finally it's out there as an import pressing. Like the Blondie and Pat Benetar LPs he also produced, Mike Chapman's work on this album assures you of non-stop tight catchy arrangements, and Gilder was certainly on a roll on this, his best album. It's listenable all the way through, and includes many highlights... in short, it's a solid record that not many people care about but offers nice pop/late period glam/rock thrills and is recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The critics are right: An overlooked gem!, October 24, 2010
This review is from: City Nights (Audio CD)
Not one bad song on the album. Not even the Beatles (before you burn me at the stake - I am a fan and own all of their works) have been able to achieve that in any of their albums. The CD shown here is a remaster from Canada. I don't believe this album was pressed (in stand alone CD form) anywhere else. Last year, in a grand feat of stupidity I sold the CD for a fraction of what I paid originally to one of those online second hand CD places. Boy, did I regret that one! This week I was able to find a copy for 12 UK pounds from an overseas vendor, and I was extremely happy when I finally played it again on my stereo. One point that was brought up by another reviewer here, is that the album was remastered at a slightly slower speed than that of the original LP. There is also a 2-in-1 CD version of this album on Amazon, which is said to be mastered at the same speed as the LP. If you refuse to pay these outrageous prices I see here (over a hundred dollars), then I suggest either searching for months for another copy of this CD, or just buy the 2 in 1 CD for this album alone. It's worth the effort and the money. A pity that after this album Nick Gilder was not given the necessary promotion he certainly deserved and that this album is like the holy grail of the genre of 70's glam rock, but without the filler.

5.0 out of 5 stars City Nights is still good, January 19, 2009

I got this cd as a gift for my brother for Christmas. The cd came in the mail the day after Christmas, and I gave it to him that weekend. He's listened to it and still loves it! This was a great bargain, and I'm very happy with my purchase and delivery choice. Had I opted to pay more for delivery I could have had the cd Dec 24, in time for Christmas - it was MY choice to take a slower means of delivery.
