During the '50s and '60s I worked in journalism in NYC and loved the stories in the NYTimes by this colorful writer. He knew how to spin a yarn. He never just did a news report. I never found out who he was, but I did collect a number of his stories in my scrapbook. Recently I became acquainted with his book and info. about him in Amazon, and I ordered the book for my son, who is a journalist.

This is excellent literary journalism. The type of nonfiction writing that enlightens and engages and stokes your curiousity about people, places and things you might not otherwise have read about.

Master craftsman of the short news feature. Simple, straight-forward, but emotionally gripping.
If you want to learn how to write non-fiction, this voice from the past will help a lot.
