The City,

Paul Brown continues to dazzle me with his acoustic talents. The City is the second CD I own by him and besides the "Cosmic Monkey" providing a unique blend of Jazz and funk background and which to me no other artist has previously displayed, the other tracks are equally engaging, especially, "A Real Mother For You" reminds me of the 70s done by Johhny Guitar Watson. If you want a real treat, please check it out and you wont regret it.

Paul's first cd, "Up Front" was a smash. This second one is unbelieveable. After helping all the other artists it's about time he started helping himself. He is a truly gifted musician. If you liked his first cd then you will definitely like this one. He does a wonderful job with Grover Washington's Winelight. Every song on here is nice and you should make this a part of your smooth jazz collection. It's a winner and Paul is a winner for the second time around. Check it out!!!!!

The City - Paul Brown,

The city has some great music and classic guitar strokes. A little funky tempos and a lot of smooth jazz. This is a great follow-up to his last CD ( Upfront )...I highly recommend this cd...Everyone will enjoy this...Keep them comin' Paul Brown...

My 2 cents,

I absolutely loved the first song. The rest of the songs were nice. Not exactly my taste, but they were good enough to justify the purchase of the cd based on only one song.

After a very successful career as a producer of many great acts in the smooth jazz circuit, Paul Brown is building up a solid career as a smooth jazz artist himself. This new work proves one more time that Brown is one of the finest musicians around in the genre. "The City" offers an outstanding performance in most of the tracks. Grover Washington Jr's classic "Winelight" is such a great cover. A delicate and tasteful rendition that truly displays Paul Brown's musicianship at its best. Another track ("Las Vegas") reminds me of Brown's deep recognition to Wes Montgomery style. Mixing vocals in the album's title track with some funky grooves in "Motha for ya" also proves that he feels comfortable enough to explore different territories. The instrumental version of "The City" is a true gem and saxman Boney James is an added value to this great album. In short, this is a "must have" cd for any smooth jazz lover.

Now THIS is what smooth jazz should be all about - a far cry from the oh so prevalent elevator variety. I bought Paul Brown' City album on a whim, based on the rave reviews right here, and it was a fabulous surprise. Sensual, original, and just the right kind of stuff you want to have playing in the background when you invite the object of your desire over for a date at your house.

I bought this disk because I'd owned Mr. Brown's Up Front album (A very good offering by the way). I cannot express how much I thoroughly enjoyed this (The City) disk! It is a mix of cool, smooth sounds (The City & others), as well as head boppin', finger snappin' cuts (Side Steppin'& others) that make your body move! My favorite is: Real Mutha for Ya, for all you Old School, Old heads, and young Old heads. Mr. Brown's voice (vocals on The City) is pretty good too. I liked/loved 7 out of 11 cuts on this CD. This is an essential addition to any contemporary jazz collection. Paul really has out done himself on this CD.

I've heard several cuts off this album on some of the Online Smooth Jazz Stations, so I had to pick up a copy for myself. I put it in the car CD player to listen on the drive home. Before I knew it, I was home - Paul's smooth, easy listening style made the drive home a breeze - can't wait to put it on while I soak in the hot tub this weekend! It will also make great background music for Memorial Day cookouts!!!
