5.0 out of 5 stars Brothers will have to fight August 13, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Full disclosure: I believe Deltron 3030 is the greatest hip-hop album ever recorded.

I've been waiting for years for anything new from Deltron. After promises, delays, rumors and misinformation City Rising From the Ashes finally emerges as a precursor to Event II. Despite lofty expectations, the EP does not disappoint. Early reviews state the songs contained are not progressive and show nothing new. Critics may have forgotten how far forward-thinking the debut was. They don't need to re-invent the wheel, they already did. Concept albums in hip-hop are rare and hip-hop science fiction is rarer still, but Deltron is the foremost authority to challenging expectations. The EP fits into the canon and (I hope) Event II will cement its place. The only detraction: Only one unreleased song is on this EP. Pay the Price was released months ago and the title track came out recently. The Agony had been teased, but here presents in full majestic glory. Buy this. Buy Deltron 3030 and the instrumental album. Buy Deltron Event II. There is nothing else like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hopefully a prelude to another great album. September 14, 2013

1999, Del the Funkee Homosapien, Kid Koala, and Dan the Automator form the supergroup Deltron 3030. They release one of the greatest concept albums EVER. Over the years, we're promised another album. I had just about given up hope of it ever happening.

2013, Deltron 3030 releases City Rising From the Ashes, an EP that is a prelude for Deltron Event II to be released, supposedly in October.

At 3 songs, this is way too short. On the other hand, it proves that Deltron 3030 is just as sharp as they were in 1999. The production is different, which is to be expected after 14 years. Del is still spitting just as good. It's going to be hard to live up to the original Deltron 3030, but if they can put out something that is as good as this teaser EP, then Event II will be a classic.

Favorite song: City Rising from the Ashes; none are bad, it just sounds the closest to the 1999 sound of Deltron 3030.
