This is an animated zombie movie (not many of those) with loads of bloody gore about an old guy beating the "living dead" out of zombies every chance he gets. Seems like 3/4 of this cartoon is just a stream of nonstop zombie deaths and zombies eating. Characters pretty much serve the purpose of being lunch for the dead, being ripped apart left and right in a blood drenched display.
The story reminds me of the anime Vampirehunter D, but instead of a talking hand, he's got a talking walker to dispatch the dead with. Sure an old guy's not as cool, but he makes up for it with his actions. The plot is slim, as City of Rott clearly puts the zombie-action first. The animation could've been better and there are slow parts, but the serious gore level makes up for it. Things get strange near the end, but it's one brutal zombie cartoon.

City of Rott (Frank Sudol, 2006)
I'll warn you up front: in order to explain my rating of this movie, it's going to have to spoil the major plot twist. Therefore, if you have any intention of seeing this movie, I warn you: stop reading RIGHT NOW. Okay, now that everyone else is gone, the first thing to note: I was unaware (presumably, if you're considering buying it, you are not) that City of Rott is an animated movie. Yes, folks, cartoon zombies. How cool is that? Well, kind of. But it does get repetitive after a while. Fred, our main character, dodges zombies, kills zombies, meets other survivors, watches them get killed, dodges zombies, kills zombies... you get the idea. Where this movie could have made a right turn to greatness was halfway through. Exactly halfway through. You see the pivotal scene, and you ask yourself "okay, this movie's only halfway over, what are we going to do for the next forty minutes?" The answer... we follow Fred around as a zombie. Now, I'm not one hundred percent certain about this, but I'm relatively sure no zombie movie made to date has followed its main character around both as a living creature and as a zombie. The very concept is brilliant. Unfortunately, Sudol-- who's pretty good at making shorts-- is not the guy to do it in a full-length movie. The Fred-as-zombie half of the movie quickly becomes as repetitive as the first half, and we're pretty much back to square one. But someone needs to take this concept and run with it, and Sudol gets serious points for coming up with the idea in the first place. ** ½

SYMBOLISM OVERDONE,
By
This review is from: City of Rott (DVD)
The animation reminds me of a Nintendo game, "Zombies Ate my Neighbor", or something like that. It is low budget. The zombies are symbolic of our own society and how we all conform, i.e. act as zombies. Those who don't conform get eaten by those who do. There are all sorts of hints about the symbolism, too many in fact. I liked Fred listening to his walker to survive. It had that "Boy and His Dog" appeal going for it, but alas the walker wasn't really talking, it was the worms feeding off Fred's brain (more symbolism). The movie is slow at times, but so is Fred and his walker, moving through the city at zombie speed. You might want to fast forward through some of the repetitive zombie kill scenes. No cartoon nudity.

Newgrounds Flash Animation Style And A Repetitive Film Makes For A Boring Watch,
By
This review is from: City of Rott (DVD)
An elderly man and his trusty walker go in to City of Rott looking for some new slippers. There's only one problem, the city is overrun by blood thirsty zombies. What follows is a gore hounds dream, animation style.
What made me watch City of Rott? Well, I was attracted to it by it's cover. A cartoon zombie flick with it's main star wielding a walker. I was kind of reminded of Bubba Ho-Tep, in which the Kinf of Rock and Roll fought against the King of The Dead. I have never heard of COR, but being a fan of horror films, and being intrigued by the cover art, which is unfortunately one of it's few highlights, I bought the flick and watched it immediately. There are some elements in COr that work, but the are few and far between, much of it a a repetitive mess. Then again, what can you expect from a film that was made entirely by one man. Frank Sudol or "FSudol" brings us a film that he wrote, directed, animated, edited, composed, produced, so on and so forth. With it's Flash like animated style, that one would find on such web-sties like "newgrounds" it stands out among other animated films, but it's unique style may put off a lot of viewers who aren't really ready for the basic animated style. Although the detail on the character are quite good and comedic. I was surprised with the variations of zombies that I found in COR, I was expecting the same face to pop up every now and then. The main character, Fred, is alone, unarmed and going insane. Looking for a pair of slippers may sound humorous, but it wears thin after the film starts. After a few chuckles here or there, the rest of the film is not really all that funny. With the comedy not working in this film, there is really only one more thing that it can rely on. It's the gore, and the film features plenty of it. The unrated COR features an abundant amount of blood and gore. Not only do zombies get shot in the head, but they get impaled with spikes, ran over by cars and decapitated by...yup you guessed it, Fred's walker. Fred uses his trusty friend as a weapon to kill the undead. Along with Fred there is a nurse, who quickly becomes a zombie, a random civilian with guns to randomly shoot zombies and another old man, who coincidentally carries the cure to being a zombie. These aren't your regular day to day zombies, this time it's parasitic worms that infest the decaying bodies. It's a new way to spin the zombie tale that could work for a feature film, but here it doesn't seem to flow very well. COR would work very well as a short, but it drags on way too long and crawls pass the finish line. After Fred gets bitten by the zombies the film becomes rather pointless. The only reason for the film to go on like this is for Fred to get the cure, so you know what will happen. Basically the entire film is watching cartoon character beat the living crap out of these zombies. While it is all in good fun, much like the final scene in Dead-Alive. It becomes repetitive in the first 30 minutes, and you are asking yourself if anything new will ever come up. I will give Frank Sudol credit for it being a one man show, it has great blood and guts and a unique animation style that could work as a short film, but COR becomes very boring, very fast. Frank, get more people on the same crew with you, put more time into the production, more then one year, and then come back with a film that will knock our socks off. There is potential here, but it's taken in the wrong direction. Which is a shame, cause the cover art is really kick ass.

The concept of this movie got me intrigued: animated zombie film. But like other reviewers have overstated, it gets quite repetitive. Everything is done by the same guy, including voice acting, which is most notable when he tries to do a female character.
My suggestion: Someone else take this amazing concept and do something truely amazing with it! My other suggestion: Watch only the first half! This would have been much better if it was much shorter!!

OK, so what we have here is a zombie cartoon movie done with Southpark style animation. The characters, humans and zombies alike walk as if theire legs were scissor blades. The legs never cross one in front of the other, they just scissor kick their way around the city.
The reason the world is infested with zombies is because of a parasitic worm that lives in the water. It gets into your bloodstream and takes over 95% of your brain. Thus you become a flesh eating zombie. Fred is our main character. He is a senile old man who talks to his walker which talks back. After he momentarily loses his walker, he discovers it has actually been his shoe that has been talking to him the whole time just 'pretending' to be the walker. Now Fred is no wuss, he probably kills at least 500 zombies with his walker and various firearms. Other human characters include an ample bussomed nurse, a fat gun-toting weirdo, and an old man with an antidote. Now halfway through the movie Fred becomes a zombie. Before he becomes a zombie the boredom sets in even with a high body count number on the bridge scene. To be honest after he becomes a zombie the movie prety much goes down hill, he stops talking which was 90% of the dialouge and humor in the first place. This movie is good enough to watch once, but you will find yourself patiently waiting for the ending. I cannot imagine anyone buying this and watching it more than once.

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
I spotted this at Hollywood video, and the concept sounded interesting. When I first started watching it, the graphics (for the overall animation) made me think that I rented a stinker. But I went along with it, since low budgets usually don't turn me off. It started interesting at first, with a slight storyiline going on (old man on a walker goes through a city doghing/killing zombies and worms, searching for shoes, while a giant zombie army heads towards the already infested city). It got more boring as it went along, reusing the same exact combat animations (which were cool at first, but you get tired of it after seeing the same thing 5 times, then it keeps growing to the hundreds range), which involved the old guy either bashing their brains in, or twisting their heads off using the walker (it sounds cool, but trust me, it will get boring after the first few times). In the end, the story goes nowhere, especially after the old geezer turns into a zombie. The film then focuses on a few individuals who eventually die (pointless), a small military group coming in to blast the zombies (we don't see them die; they seem like the only ones who will live), and finally another old guy getting killed, with the zombie geezer moaning over it, then taking a small bite. The film ends there. The film starts to get very very boring during and after the bridge battle between the old guy and the zombies (that's where the repetetiveness really starts to show). Even then, I'll be impressed if anyone makes it that far into the movie. Bottom line, avoid the movie. Very boring. It took me willpower to get through this one.

City of Letdown,

I was VERY disappointed by this movie. I expected to see a good zombie flick. Instead I got preached at periodically throughout the movie. I didn't need a lecture; I needed a good Zombie movie. The animated zombies were cool, but it got a little boring because you could see he was killing the same zombies over and over. How many times was the same nurse in the movie? Then the plot kind of dies half way through the movie. It seemed like they only had half a script and improvised the rest. There were some great ideas, but this was a let down. I would watch it again, but I am afraid I would get more of the same.

The idea for the movie sounded cool, an animated movie about an old man walking around bashing zombie brains out with a walker. Sounds awesome, doesn't it?
Guess again. First thing, the animation is absolutely TERRIBLE. For comparison, it's about the same quality animation you would see on Newgrounds. Second thing, the Amazon price on this at the moment is $26.99, i paid $15 for it but i still feel ripped off. Even with an excessive amount of gore, it doesn't break past crappy animation and absolutely no story line whatsoever. The humor is dull and makes the movie even worse than it would have been, and the film is littered with mostly horrible trance and techno music. If this movie was $5 brand new, i would reccomend it, but i guarantee you wouldn't watch this more than once or twice in your entire lifetime. I am an absolute zombie fanatic, i have everything. Trust me and save your money, straight up.

Worst Zombie movie ever,
By SatampraZeiros (Charlotte) - See all my reviews

yes this is the worst zombie movie ever (and there are a few spoilers in my review) even worse than The Dead Next Door, Zombie Lake, Zombie Rednecks and Toxic Zombies, please stay away from it, and if you want to buy it Ill sell you mine I only watched it once and that was enough, now one thing it does have as a pro is the unique story line (worms in water make dead bodies rise up to feed, and there is a kind of cure)but aside from that its badly voiced badly animated and some scenes make no sense at all (the soldier/cop that tries to capture his zombie wife)seriously if you buy this movie you will not only feel dissapointed but ripped off, why? well because the first thing you think about is gee its a cartoon it can incorporate a lot of things that normal movies cant, right? well it really doesnt, seriously some of the aforementioned movies are actually better than this, Id venture to say even the Resident Evil series is better than this (and if youre a big zombie buff like me you know those movies are bad) anyway if you really must see it see it but I hope you rent it and not buy it.
