Book Description

May 1, 2008
All Phoenix really wants to do is fly - fly and be with Gabriel, the angel. But their world is a brutal one where accelerated evolution has fractured the city into factions that can barely coexist without killing one another. So it seems impossible for earthbound Phoenix to be with airborne Gabriel, one of the rare humans with wings.
Then the Adults come. Violent, fanatical, and "blessed" by evolution with armored flesh that makes them appear only barely human, the Adults are intent on stamping out anyone they see as a mutation - especially those with wings. Phoenix may be the only one who can save Gabriel, but in so doing, she just might start a war that kills everyone she loves - or possibly destroys the whole world.

Review

'[City of Screams] is a clever, thought-provoking novel set in a fantastically vivid world' ESSEX LIFE 'There is so much to recommend: extremely well written, suspense, adventure and many issues relevant to the teenage years' THE SCHOOL LIBRARIAN --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

From the Inside Flap

In this thought-provoking sequel to The Rule of Claw, author John Brindley continues to explore a future world where genetic experiments have accelerated the process of evolution.

Phoenix is an earthbound Agle, one of several genetic variations on humans. She believes she is deformed because she can't fly. She is in love with the image of perfection, the air Agle Gabriel. What will she risk to be with him?

The stakes are high: a delicate balance has been formed between the Rodents, Rapotors, and Agles in the rebuilt city. Is Phoenix willing to jeopardize their safety? What chance does she have when the Adults, a violent and fanatical human offshoot, return, claiming civilization for themselves once and for all? --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars interesting characters, March 3, 2010
This review is from: City of Screams (Hardcover)
The book is a mystery, romance, and an adventure. There is
a twist in this adventure as death is brought to their
home by raving Raptors. The Air Angels and Ground Angels
are limited in their abilities, but one special Ground
Angel is able to change everything.

I think CITY OF SCREAMS was a very nice book. This book
reminds me of one of my favorite author, James Patterson.
I like CITY OF SCREAMS a lot, and I feel that anyone who
enjoys a book with interesting characters should read it.
