Book Description

May 2004
In an all-too-near future laws are made by Enforcers, parents are allowed only two children, and only legals have the right of home and work. Among the lowest of the illegals are children driven from their families and onto the streets.

Eryyn and Sawyer live as most street kids do, by picking pockets and breaking into houses for trinkets to pawn. Few kids survive the streets for long. There is always the chance of being sold to factories or farms for slave labor--or worse. If they would live, they must work for The Foreman, who runs his gangs of kleptos with an iron fist. When the brutality of their lives at last gives Eryyn the courage to fight back, she and Sawyer use their only weapon--their wits--to draw street kids into rebellion. But they also draw The Foreman's eye.

Accustomed to being obeyed, those who dare once resist never do again. As they fight for the right to live, Eryyn and Sawyer can trust no one. How far will The Foreman will go to keep his power over the sparrows?

More About the Author

While living in Maine as a teenager I passed the time with long walks down the camp road behind our house with our dog, Geordie. These walks were filled with fantasy stories that I acted out, sometimes from the many books I devoured each week, but usually from stories that came from nowhere but my own imagination. I was never lonely, for I had hundreds of bright, quirky, adventurous, and magical friends to keep me company. Eventually, these stories had to come out in a more solid form and that is when I started writing--on legal pads since i did not yet have a laptop (that most wondrous of inventions).

It all started with a fantasy story penned at the age of 14 and, in the 16 years since, i have never stopped writing, for the stories have never stopped presenting themselves to me.

When not delving into the fantasy realm of my mind, my busy, twitchy fingers can be found linking hundreds--thousands--of single metal rings together into unique chainmaille jewelry that no knight of olde ever used in his armor. This hobby has become a passion of mine, so much so that I have started a business making and selling jewelry.

My home is shared with a variety of animals, for I firmly believe that four-legged, finned, or winged companions truly add richness and joy to life. Four rescue dogs: Zoey, Koda, Nova, and Brady; two rescue cats: Willow and Mandu (Katmandu, get it?); five ducks: Penny, Sophie, Sadie, Mia and Pickles; and a chatty, bratty macaw named Icarus called me mom.

Despite the menagerie at home, my wanderlust often strikes and I find myself drawn to the natural world. National and State parks, shorelines, forests, deserts, and the open ocean all hold great appeal to me. I have a bird watching life-list of 162 and recently fulfilled a dream of seeing wolves and a grizzly bear in the wild.

I'm bright and flashy; I'm never without a book, pen, and music; I love owls; I think laughter is necessary to life...the rest I take as it comes. Thank you Amazon for the chance to introduce my written friends and lands to the Kindle world.

5.0 out of 5 stars NEW WRITER'S DEBUT NOVEL STUNNING, June 12, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: City of Sparrows (Paperback)
Tina Moss has reached far with her first novel and her reach has not exceeded her grasp. This novel is an affecting story of good and evil in a near future America. Her story is sparingly written and might be compared to The Handmaiden's Tale in its literary flavor. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars KUDOS TO TINA MOSS, July 27, 2004
This review is from: City of Sparrows (Paperback)
I thought this book was very well written. The storyline kept my interest throughout the entire book. The characters were entertaining, and well thought out. They were very likeable. I found myself rooting for them to beat the odds and come out on top, which they did. I would definately recommend this book to readers of all ages. I can not wait to read it to my own children.
