3.0 out of 5 stars One CD too many, October 6, 2010

City of Spires was an episode that I was looking forward to. The return of Jamie McCrimmon as a companion, the appearance of Georgia Moffett in the series. Both boded well for both this story and the future CD that would come with it. Alas not all things meet expectations.

It wasn't a question of the acting. As usual Colin Baker's 6th doctor was a pleasure to listen to, Frazier Hines plays Jamie as if he never missed a beat and Georgia Moffett is spectacular in her role as Alice.

The first CD find the doctor in the late 1700's in Scotland meeting a Jamie McCrimmon who still doesn't remember him. The first CD is simply wonderful. The story draws you in, you care about the characters and you can't wait to see what happens net.

Unfortunately for us, the first CD ends, and after a brief good start the 2nd CD turns into a mess of gobbledygook. The actors do their best to keep the story flowing but the plot gets silly and the story gets weaker and weaker till by the time you are half way through part four you are simply begging for it to end.

That's what really hurt this episode the 1st CD was so good and the second so much worse that the letdown is spectacular.

Lets hope the next two Jamie episodes and the companion chronicle adventure that goes with it don't have the same issue
