City Walks with Kids: Paris Adventures on Foot

We had high hopes for these cards. The idea is great, as is their construction. As we got closer to our trip, we would pull out the cards and show our kids (3 and 7) where we might go and where else they might want to go. It did not capture their imagination as we had hoped, as the text was advanced and the maps a confusing graphic, but it started the conversation.

When we got to Paris, we again pulled out the cards and showed our kids where we were going. One of us read the back, and highlighted the things we thought they would most be interested in.

Almost immediately we stopped bringing the cards on the actual trips. They were much more detailed than our guide book, but when we got there a lot of the details were wrong or out-of-date. In short, the reality was often different than the cards. Also, what we understood from the card only made sense after we got there.

On many levels these did not work. Still, as another device to include the kids it was nice to have. A good concept that could be great.

Recently returned from a weekend trip to Paris with my husband and 3 year old. It was our first trip. While researching where to go for our short visit, I purchased a book called "City Walks with Kids. Paris." It was not a book, but was the size of small book with 50 small cards with ideas of where to go and what to do. The cards covered all the main tourist attractions and also gave recommendations for things nearby that were child friendly, including food. It helped me get organized for for my trip. Also, my three year old loved looking and talking about the pictures on the map on the back of each card. Didn't have to pack as many travel toys. He is a huge fan of the Eiffel tower now.

The maps on the back of the cards are nice, but I recommend getting a more detailed map of Paris at any newspaper stand when you arrive in Paris.

I highly recommend this book if you are traveling with children to Paris. Paris really is child friendly. I can't wait to return and will be bringing my "City Walks with Kids" with me.

I travelled to Paris for two months this last spring with my friend and her two girls 4yrs & 2 yrs old. These cards were Great, we would show the girls what the picture on the front was, discuss what was there. Then we would plot our metro travel or walk and take the card along. They were great and accurate.
Of the 50 cards we covered 44 of the destinations... the sewers we didn't think would be of interest. The local people we met in the parks would suggest different things to do with the girls and there was always a card that covered that praticular suggestion.
I would Highly recommend these for all ages....

Just returned from 8 days in France, 3 days in Paris. Both my husband and I had been to Paris before, but never with our 4 year old son. The cards were extremely helpful in narrowing down our sightseeing options. Each card explains a group of activities within close proximity that can be done in about 1 to 2 hours. Metro stops as well as phone numbers and websites were provided. Multiple cards can easily be done in one day. There is a larger map in the box that shows which area each card covers. This map is good for finding multiple cards that can be done on the same day. This set is not intended to be a street map of Paris. You'll still need a map of Paris, which our concierge supplied upon arrival. Our son loved all the activities we tried. The trampoline park in the Tuileries, the Eiffel Tower at night, and the playground in Luxembourg gardens were among his favorites.

We recently returned home from a 1 month trip to Paris with our 5 1/2 and 18 month old children. I must admit we essentially based our whole month around these cards. My 5 1/2 year old daughter loved looking though them and deciding on her adventure for the following day. She also felt a sense of achievement when we had seen the attractions on a card. Another positive is that the cards contain most of the adult highlights of Paris with a child twist so we did not feel like we were missing out. They are beautifully illustrated and definitely appealed to my little girl. The pictures are a talking point for children and prompt them to ask ask about the destination.

The maps are accurate but stylized. I suggest that you take another map for navigation.

We also loved the website information at the bottom of the cards which related to each of the activities. As with all attractions around the world, opening times and individual activities change throughout the seasons so the website is an easy way to check before you go - especially if your French is a little scratchy (like ours).

It has great information! Fun to look for kids, very useful for adults, but remember it's not a book type material it's "cards" and I reframe that, because if you are subjected to custmons clereance in your country , you will have to pay "extras", because it's not considered a book.

These notecards are easy to pop in your stroller or purse, and then refer to as you explore the city. They helped us find activities or sites that the kids might be interested in, but that wouldn't necessarily appear in a grown-up focused guidebook. Many included kid-friendly food stops too!

although has not been used in Paris yet, we have been having a good look through the cards with my 4 year old. He is getting very interested in the trip and has been looking at the cards every day for last 5 days. the cards are very informative and I think they will be a great resource. easy to take just the card you want for the day. has info about kid friendly places to eat on each card, and how to make everything more interesting for children.

My 4 year old son & I took my little girl to paris for her 2nd birthday, just the 3 of us. The cards were fun for the kids t flip through & we voted on what we would do each day. I would recommend them to anyone.
