The best thing about this book is that the author is just a normal guy like you and me; he doesn't have to try to sound savvy or hip. This book is like having a cool best friend take you around the city. I refer to it whenever I want to go out on the town, especially downtown.

If you're not so much interested in how to beat the lines at the Statue of Liberty, and more attuned to where you can sip Long Island Ice Teas while staring at bona fide fashion models and New York's notoriously secretive cognoscenti, this book is for you. Much more than a guide to the city's geography, it is a rare insight into the raison d'etre of the au courant. Forget Fodor's, Let's Go, and all the broad-spectrum filth. Finally, there is a book for the people who need it. Anyone can see the Statue of Liberty from miles away. Citytripping goes below the surface.

I have never seen a guidebook quite like this before. It is both informative and amusing. I would recommend that anybody interested in going to New York City for the first time buy it. I did. I found it by randomly scanning through amazon's New York City guidebooks. What caught my eye is the approach that this book takes that is different than most of the other guidebooks. This book really is targeted at people who want to do things in New York that locals, not visitors, usually do. I met a lot of interesting people going to the recommended restaurants in this book. There is absolutely no way that either my girlfriend or I could have found out about all of the stuff in this book. The concierge at our hotel even wrote down some recommendations for his own records!

I carry this book everywhere I go. Throw a copy in your backpack and you have the ultimate NYC resource at your fingertips.

Citytripping not only provides useful information on restaurants, shopping and nightlife, but Tom Dolby manages to present it all in a concise yet insightful manner.

If you aren't already convinced that NYC is the greatest city in the world, this book just may make you change your mind.

I bought this guide after hearing the author speak at Tower Books back in October. I think this book is great. It has so much information! I'm a freshman at NYU, and this book has helped me find a bunch of really cool places. I thought it was funny that the majority of the restaraunts I liked to go to before I bought the book were all in there. Perfect guide for anyone looking for new places to go in New York City.

Truly a superb book, it certainly has everything you need to know about New York City and more. I really like how it is organised. I used it as a handy reference while I was in New York the past two times and I found it to be very helpful. Cheers, J. Michael Walters

I have lived in New York City for nearly 2 years now, and can honestly say that this book has been an incredibly useful resource to me. Because I consider myself a New Yorker, I usually regard NYC travel guides as books for tourists. Citytripping is a clear exception. I noticed a copy of the book while shopping in the Village. I ended up flipping through it for almost 20 minutes in the store before I decided that I had to buy it. This book had full, perfect reviews of all (literally ALL) my favorite restaraunts, clubs, and bars -- plus so many more that I hadn't ever been to. Since I bought it a month ago, I've gone to many of the listed night-spots and shops and can honestly say that the author obviously knows New York! It is like a key to unlocking the downtown scene. Examples: I was meeting a friend in Chelsea two days ago and suggested a restaurant based soley on the Citytripping review, and we had an excellent meal and a great time. A few weeks ago I had some friends visit from North Carolina and they wanted to go "star-gazing". Not really my scene, but thanks to a section in Citytripping we found 2 bars frequented by Hollywood elite and saw more than a few stars in our midst. Without hesitation I would recommend this book to anyone new to the City. Also, from personal experience I can say that this book is even great for poeple who've been here for years. Citytripping is a unique concept, and I am very happy that I bought my copy!

My girlfriend gave me this book as a gift and we've been using it ever since I got to NY this fall--it's the greatest resource, with insider info on all the clubs, restaurants, etc. I'm not the type to read a guidebook, but this book is totally different--and the illustrations are great!

I felt the authors made too great of an attempt to sound savvy and "hip". After visiting some mentioned locales, I have decided not to refer to the book except in jest.
