Product Description
Our American Civil War Chess Set is a specially commissioned chess set by West Somerset sculptor George Pitman-Hooker. The handpainted pieces depict for the Union, Abraham Lincoln (KING), Mary Tod Lincoln (QUEEN), Ulysses S. Grant and William T. Sherman (BISHOPS), Northern cavalry officers (KNIGHTS), the Capitol in Wahington DC (ROOKS) and Infantry (PAWNS). For the Confederates, the set presents Jefferson Davis (KING), Verina Howell Davis (QUEEN), Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson (BISHOPS), and Southern cavalry officers (KNIGHTS), the Capitol in Richmond VA (ROOKS), and Infantry (PAWNS). The KINGS stand 6 inches tall on a 2 1/8 inch base and are, like all the pieces in this set, lovingly and realistically hand painted. The Civil War action takes place on a beautifully designed 23.5 inch leather board with 2.5 inch squares. (The reverse side contains a backgammon design). This detailed chess set is for the chess lover and the collector of fine chess sets. Makes an unforgettable gift.
