The Civil War is a period of history that many students arefascinated in. This book has pages of connons, soldiers, horses,towers, architecture, ships, artillery, trains and everything else that played a part in this time period. It is easy and well explained and gives one the confidence to grab pencil, paper and supplies and begin! A lovely gift and a must for classrooms!

I'm an adult Civil War Buff who likes to draw & thought it would be fun to combine the two. I was VERY pleasantly surprised with this book. It is WAY MORE than just a drawing book, but is filled with interesting tidbits of information on factories, plantations, bridges (I learned exactly what a pontoon bridge was & how to draw it.), cannons, trestles ("Beanpole Bridges"), all sorts of transportation, Hot-Air Balloon, ambulances & horse teams, ships, soldiers of all ranks, including Drummer boy, & even a sweet/sad story on Sallie, the Brave dog mascot. All above mentioned information is illustrated in steps for drawing. I'd recommend this book to anyone--young or older--who is looking for drawing material for civil war drawings with some idea of how to begin, & for anyone doing home schooling or child care for older kids. As already mentioned, it would definitely make a good addition to the classroom or school library. The background information is just a very nice addition for the novice who wants an illustration of some of the terms used during the ACW period--even if you never draw them.
