4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent casebook on Civil Procedure
This was my casebook for my first-year Civil Procedure class, and although I was not thrilled with the prospects of spending a year sorting through the quagmire of the F.R.Civ.P. this book made life and the rules much easier. If you have a choice as to which casebook to use, I would recommend this one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the best subject, not the greatest casebook
This is just TOO much, TOO soon for people just entering law school. EXTREMELY dry, and way too much info before the previous concepts have been explained clearly enough. Some chapters are better than others, but overall it's a headache. Perfect for law profs and treatise writers, confusing for the regular 1L.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor case editing, August 25, 2008

Poor student (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
Great case selection, but poor editing. Way too much irrelevant material. As I have personal experience with Prof Marcus, I have to think it's the fault of the other two junior casebook authors. Marcus himself gives incredibly succinct answers to complex questions. My suggestion if you have problems with the book is to email him a question!

2.0 out of 5 stars could have been worse, April 1, 2011

But, it could have been a lot better too. The content was fine with respect to case selection. Really, how could you go wrong with that? The questions were often inscrutable, and the typeface and layout made the content very difficult to digest.

Dear publishing company: If I am going to pay this kind of money for a book, might I recommend margins?

Authors: I am sure your questions are meant to stimulate thought, but remember that I haven't yet written a text book on this subject, and am unlikely to take your recommendations regarding further reading given tomorrow's deadlines. I am not suggesting that I should be spoon fed my Civ Pro, but don't expect me to conduct a scavenger hunt for every reading either.
