5.0 out of 5 stars The Civil War Catalog, April 16, 2009

This review is from: The Civil War Catalog (Hardcover)
I bought this book for my six year-old son after attending a Civil War reenactment in Louisiana. My brother is an collector of Civil War era artifacts and a reenactor. He has a copy of the book and my little one looked at it for hours. My son is absolutely lost in this book. He carries it around and even takes it to school with him. He's shared photos and facts with his Kindergarten class. His classmates ask to look through it as well. The photography is wonderful and the text is interesting. We can open the book and read exerts from it all the time. I mistakenly ordered two and lent one to friends that were visiting Virginia Civil War battlefields over Spring Break. I myself have sat and looked at it and found it very interesting. I would recommend this to any family that loves American history.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fredericksburg, VA, January 2, 2012
This review is from: The Civil War Catalog (Hardcover)
While I am not an expert on the American Civil War, I have lived in the Fredericksburg, VA area for almost 25 years. During that time, I have visited the four battlefields and visitor centers many times. On pages 230-231 there is a double-leaf page picture of the famous stone wall and Sunken Road at the foot of Marye's Heights in Fredericksburg, showing the aftermath of battle. The caption places the site in Chancellorsville. This may well be the only slight in the book, but as the catalog is used for reference/research, and not only as coffee table fodder, perhaps the editor(s) could have been a little more on task. If one didn't know, one wouldn't know.
