This review is from: Civil War Cooking: The Housekeepers Encyclopedia (Paperback)
As a Civil War reenactor, I wanted some Civil War recipes and so ordered this book, not realizing that it was a reproduction of a book published in 1961. It contains not only recipes but household advice for the 1860's housewife from Mrs. Haskell. It is an interesting book: full of the facts of daily life during the Civil War. There are so many ingredients and terms I don't understand that it's frightening, but enlightening. So very much to learn about the way of life in our nation's past.
